Halloween Horror Nights is Universal Resort’s biggest seasonal event, and tourists travel from all over the world to experience pop culture-themed horror like never before. The street performers and various haunted houses are notoriously scream-worthy and absolutely not for the faint of heart. Last year, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal included houses themed after The Purge, Halloween, and other spooky Universal-created scares like the Terror Tram.
All the houses for this year aren’t public knowledge yet. BUT Universal Studios just announced it would feature a huge fan-favorite story for 2023. The Last of Us, a critically acclaimed video game, rose to popularity after an HBO series based on it became a smash hit. Now it’s about to infect both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood for Halloween!
The Last of Us is a video game turned television series about a post-apocalyptic world 20 years after a fungal pandemic has wiped out much of humanity in the United States. Basically, all the infected are grotesque zombie-like creatures. Joel, a smuggler, and Ellie, a teenager who may be the key to finding a cure, journey across the country and try to survive. The show starts the beloved Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
For clarity, the Halloween Horror Nights Haunted House will be based on the video game version rather than the HBO interpretation. However, fans will tell you that the series is not far off from its original source. So if you’ve only seen the show, don’t worry. You’ll still totally get it.
Here’s an official description from The Hollywood Reporter.
Guests on both coasts will have to survive a brutal journey of carnage and mayhem alongside fellow hardened survivors and the game’s protagonists, Joel and Ellie, while navigating the Pittsburgh Quarantine Zone. Inside, fans will glimpse iconic game locations including The Hotel Grand and a labyrinth of dark and dank tunnels, and come face-to-face with terrifying Clickers, Raiders, Runners and Stalkers, as well as the band of hostile humans known as The Hunters.
Get ready to be one of The Last of Us starting September 1 at Universal Orlando Resort and September 7 at Universal Studios Hollywood! The horror event is set to return on select nights from September through October.
Universal confirms "The Last of Us" is coming to #HalloweenHorrorNights at @UniversalORL and @UniStudios.
