Governor Ron DeSantis and the Walt Disney Company are having a good week (depending on who you ask).

The Florida Governor recently scored a win in court against the Walt Disney Company. Disney had attempted to have the case against them dismissed that was filed by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. This is separate from Disney’s lawsuit against the board and Governor DeSantis. In this one, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is challenging the authority of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District and the legal knots they made before leaving (i.e., handing all their power over to Disney until 21 years after the last descendent of King Charles III passes away). Disney made a motion to have the lawsuit dismissed but was denied.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s lawsuit against the Walt Disney Company argues that the February agreement giving it back authority “reek[s] of a backroom deal” and is null and void.

This is being counted by many as a “win” for Governor DeSantis, as the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is seen as an extension of his political power and office. However, despite it being a win for the governor, his fight with Disney still seems to shadow his campaign for President of the United States – and bringing with it much criticism from both Republicans and Democrats.

New Disney MagicBand+

Fans of Figment have something to celebrate at Disney Parks. shopDisney.com is now offering a new MagicBand+ featuring the lovable purple dragon who once (and maybe still is?) the mascot of EPCOT. The MagicBand+ sells for $44.99 and can be used at Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort.

It displays a simple version of the Imagination Institute’s logo, featuring a lightbulb on the puck. The logo is repeated across the band with standalone lightbulbs and stars, as well as an image of Figment with a lightbulb over his head…sparking his imagination.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
