It’s only been about two years since Disney Cruise Line debuted the Disney Wish ship, but the vacation sailors already have a new one lined up for Guests to ogle over. The new cruise ship is called the Disney Treasure, and the Disney Parks Blog has all the ins and out of the vessel’s timeline for fans who just can’t wait to get aboard.
The Disney Treasure’s building process, taking place in Germany, has moved along rather quickly for having just started in January of this year. In true maritime tradition for Disney Imagineers and crew, a ceremony marking the start of construction took place on January 19. Less than a month later, the Treasure received the iconic red funnel that stands tall and tops every Disney Cruise Line ship vacation liner.
It received the Floating Engine Room Unit and laid the keel in March, and revealed the bow filigree design for the first time in April. The artwork shows Captain Minnie Mouse in her “brand-new, adventure-ready ensemble” as silhouettes of some other Disney classic characters are hidden around her. Apparently, Minnie Mouse has a new outfit to match the adventure theme of the Disney Treasure!
In May, the Disney Treasure attached the bow, and its design takes “inspiration from classic ocean liners of the early 20th century with a modern flair.” A Broadway-style stage is also installed, confirming the Treasure will have the same type of professional theatrical offerings as its sister ships. Just the next month, the Captain’s wheel was set in!
As for onboard theming, Disney Cruise Line says, “Get ready to soar on a shining, shimmering, splendid adventure, where the world we know meets fantastic worlds of the imagination.” The Aladdin (1992) nods continues in the website‘s artist rendering video. In the short video, the magic carpet flies around the cruise ship’s atrium to then rub a magic lamp. From the lamp appears a golden flying statue of Aladdin and Jasmine’s ‘Whole New World’ moment.
Each ship has a statue of a certain character in the center of the boat that exemplifies the chosen theme – in this case “treasure.” Another short sneak peek video shows Peter Pan flying around the sailing cruise liner – could he be the icon character, otherwise known as the character painted across the back of the ship? Tinker Bell and Peter fly past port windows revealing Miguel from Coco (2017), Moana and Hei Hei, and the Haunted Mansion ghosts!
Disney Dining will keep you updated as more news at the Disney Treasure is discovered!
