If there is one thing that fans seem to collectively agree on, it’s their love for actors Johnny Depp and Dwayne Johnson. Both stars have dominated the news recently with legal battles that they emerged victorious from and have received unwavering fan support in their personal lives as well as in their career. Depp and Johnson also have a similar history of bringing some of Disney Parks’ most iconic attractions to life on the big screen for audiences of all ages. And now, Disney needs their star power to help them again.
It’s not a secret that the entertainment industry is a bit of a mess right now. Screenwriters are striking. Screen actors are striking. Big Studios currently refuse to budge and resume negotiations with them. The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger even received backlash for his stance on the protests. But the truth of the matter is that Disney is struggling at the box office.
Its latest films, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Pixar’s Elemental, both opened with lackluster box-office numbers despite their large production budgets. Bob Iger even suggested that Disney+ and Marvel Studios had made a misstep by diluting content and distracting Marvel fans from the wildly popular feature films with streaming series. So how can Disney bring everyone together and rally them around a singular theatrical release?
Well, Mr. Iger, I think I have a solution for you. Create a project starring Pirates of the Caribbean’s iconic Johnny Depp with Jungle Cruise’s beloved Dwayne Johnson! As we discussed, fans absolutely love them and will stand behind them even in tough times. Plus, Depp and Johnson are such categorically different actors it would be amazing to see their on-screen dynamic!
Maybe do a Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and Jungle Cruise crossover film. That would be so crazy, and I have no idea how to interweave those storylines, but I’m sure Disney writers will (once the strike ends, of course.) They both involve boat captains and water…how hard could it really be? Disney Channel once did a crossover of That’s So Raven, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Hannah Montana called “That’s so Suite Life of Hannah Montana.” I think you can manage “Pirates of the Jungle Cruise” or something like that.
Fans would come out of the woodwork to see each iconic actor in a lead role alongside the other! We really can’t be sure that Johnny Depp really will return as Captain Jack Sparrow, so Disney could sweeten the deal with a different franchise…this one with Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
I mean, singer Jelly Roll is even trying to get them together in a musical capacity. If Jelly Roll can do it…
Can you truthfully tell me that you DON’T want to see these two together on the big screen? I’m just saying the box office will thank you, Disney…
