Disney Propelled Johnny Depp’s Career
Fandomwire shared a report on how Disney saved Johnny Depp’s career.
Steven Spielberg’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie was rejected, but it almost starred Robin Williams. Robin Williams starred in films such as Hook (1991), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Jumanji (1995), Flubber (1997), RV (2006), and the Night at the Museum franchise (2006–2014). He also lent his voice to the animated film Aladdin (1992).
This meant when they re-looked at Pirates of the Caribbean, Robin Williams was not the ideal actor anymore. Disney looked at Michael Keaton, Jim Carrey, and Christopher Walken for the role of Captain Jack Sparrow before ultimately electing to with Johnny Depp.
The movie propelled Depp to new heights, and though he was already an established actor, no one can argue that Captain Jack Sparrow has become his most popular and recognized role.
Do you think Disney saved Johnny Depp’s career? Let us know in the comments.
No, it just gave us another character to love played by Johnny Depp! He is a great actor and as Jack Sparrow, that’s proof!!! I have the DVD of all of his movies because of his acting not who he worked for at the time.
Disney didn’t boost Depp’s career. He boosted Disney. He was well established before the Pirates movies.
Absolutely correct!
Johnny Depp is Pirates of the Caribbean and he gave floundering Disney the million dollar boost it needed!
They don’t deserve Johnny thats for sure, when they turned their back on him while he was in court due to Amber Heard and her BS. I would never work with them again, that betrayal would run deep if I was him. But if he is willing to work with Disney I guess that means he forgives them for it.
