Rapunzel is an energetic, artistic, and fan favorite Disney Princess, and now she’s supposedly getting her chance to shine in live-action on the big screen. The lost princess story is one of Disney’s most recently announced live action remakes in a seemingly endless list that audiences have mostly lost track of. Tangled itself didn’t debut all that long ago, in 2010, and thirteen years is comparatively young in the realm of animated Disney classics. Nonetheless, the live action Tangled is on its way!
The Walt Disney Pictures animated film Tangled tells the story of Princess Rapunzel, with her long, magical hair, who has been locked away in a tower by an evil witch named Mother Gothel. When a thief named Flynn Rider stumbles upon her tower, Rapunzel’s wish to escape and explore the outside world comes true. The two fall in love and sing the Academy Award-nominated song “I See the Light.”
What Can Fans Expect in a Live Action Tangled?
Considering Disney’s trend toward creative casting decisions and tweaked storylines, fans are understandably nervous about what this could mean for Tangled‘s live action translation. Some fans would rather Disney just leave the animated film “in peace” rather than potentially ruin it.
It is unlikely the original voice cast will return to reprise their roles. However, fans would love to see some kind of cameo from Mandy Moore (the original voice of Rapunzel) and Zachary Levi (the original voice of Flynn Rider, AKA Eugene Fitzherbert) in some capacity like that of Jodi Benson in the 2023 The Little Mermaid live action remake.
Famous names are already being thrown out by fans who are willing to get on board. Could Meryl Streep be considered for Mother Gothel? Amanda Seyfried or Sabrina Carpenter for Rapunzel? Either way, cautiously excited fans seem to suggest that good casting will make or break their willingness to see it in theaters.
