WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Read at your own risk!
If you’ve heard the rumors of the original Princess Ariel’s cameo in The Little Mermaid (2023), you heard correctly. But we’re here to tell you that her cameo was better than we could have imagined.
We recently reported on Jodi Benson’s cameo in The Little Mermaid, but with so little detail, we weren’t sure what to expect of it. However, while watching the newest Disney movie, the cameo was everything and more.
After Princess Ariel has gotten her new legs, the dashing Prince Eric takes her around the kingdom, showing her the ropes, the culture, and the people.
One of the people Princess Ariel meets is Jodi Benson, playing the part of an unnamed shopkeep. The shopkeeper offers Ariel something to eat and hands her a fork afterward.
Of course, Princess Ariel takes the fork and uses it to twirl her hair, much to the shopkeeper’s confusion.
Still, it’s a clever gag, showing that Jodi Benson is literally passing the torch, the trident, the dinglehopper – whatever you wanna call it – to Halle Bailey.
The Little Mermaid cast consists of Halle Bailey as the beautiful Princess Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as the dashing Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as the evil Sea Witch Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
The Little Mermaid is currently available to watch in theaters. At this time, we don’t know when the film will swim over to Disney Plus.
