As the newest Little Mermaid (2023) film makes a splash into theaters, Disney Parks quickly make a ton of changes.
In Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, new Little Mermaid-themed snacks have become part of our world. In Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and Disneyland Paris alike, a new meet-and-greet opportunity for the live-action Ariel surfaces, giving Guests a chance to interact with the new princess.
All of these changes have had us wondering: will something happen to Magic Kingdom’s Little Mermaid (1989) attraction, Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid?
In fact, we recently brought this question up and reported on the possibility of the dark ride receiving an update, reflecting the newest Little Mermaid film.
However, it seems that one Guest captured some more evidence for this very claim while riding recently:

In this video, we can see that the iconic Ariel animatronic is looking…worse for wear. It’s never a good sign when an attraction’s animatronics look bad. But for the headlining animatronic to look this bad? It doesn’t bode well for Journey of the Little Mermaid.
Will Walt Disney Imagineering be tasked with retheming this dark ride? It all depends on the success of the latest Little Mermaid film and audiences’ reception to the new character interactions.
It’s worth noting that The Little Mermaid is currently shaping up to be one of the most successful live-action remakes yet. Possibly even the most successful!
Despite the film’s success, we’ll simply have to wait and see if Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid will be overhauled to reflect the newest movie.
