Today’s the big day! The live-action remake of The Little Mermaid finally makes a splash into theaters, and fans everywhere are flippin’ their fins to watch the reimagined tale of the iconic Disney Princess.

But they’re not the only ones!

Disney Parks, from Walt Disney World to Disneyland Paris, have made changes to include the newest Disney Princess, the live-action Ariel, to become a part of their world.

In Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park, Guests can now experience character meet-and-greets with Princess Ariel.

However, Disney has strict rules about more than one of the same character being visible; so, the original Princess Ariel face character will be missing while the live-action Ariel meet-and-greets commence.

While the new character meet-and-greet takes place in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we wonder what that could mean for the Little Mermaid attraction in Magic Kingdom.

In Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland lies Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid, a slow-moving dark ride taking Guests underwater and into the original film’s events.

Although this attraction is beloved, it’s seen better days. More often than not, Guests complain about the animatronics looking worse for wear, and the ride often stops due to technical difficulties.

This leads us to ask: Will Magic Kingdom’s Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid undergo a significant overhaul? If The Little Mermaid (2023) does well enough, Disney could potentially refurbish the attraction, retheming it to the newer film.

This would mean creating new designs for all animatronics, animation, and puppets used in the attraction. Admittedly, it would be quite the undertaking. That said, the ride is in poor shape and would only benefit from a refurbishment.
