Timothée Chalamet, the talented French-American actor, has been making waves in the entertainment industry with his exceptional performances and striking looks. He has recently been cast as the lead in the highly anticipated musical adventure film, Wonka, which is slated to release in December 2023. Alongside renowned actors Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson, Chalamet’s star power is shining bright. Despite his relative youth, the 27-year-old’s chiseled features and undeniable charm have caught the attention of many in Hollywood. Fans are already speculating about potential roles and passion projects that would suit the Beautiful Boy star’s talents. While Chalamet’s busy schedule has been impacted by SAG-AFTRA strikes, admirers are still holding out hope that he might consider revisiting a beloved past project.
Timothée Chalamet, an up-and-coming Hollywood actor, has already shared the screen with big names such as Zendaya in the sci-fi epic Dune, Christian Bale in the western drama Hostiles, and Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio in the satirical comedy Don’t Look Up. However, Chalamet’s career is just beginning to take off, as he is set to portray the iconic character of Willy Wonka in an upcoming film. Although the character was famously played by Gene Wilder in the original film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic novel, and later by Johnny Depp in the 2005 remake Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it is often overlooked that a well-known director was at the helm of the Warner Bros production.
The Days of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are Over
When we hear names like Johnny Depp, we often think of Jack Sparrow and the Mad Hatter, but many of us immediately associate much of his work with famed director Tim Burton. Although Burton isn’t associated with Chalamet’s latest take on Willy Wonka, his mark on Hollywood, especially in the careers of the likes of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, is heavily felt. Tim Burton’s most recognizable works include Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Beetlejuice (1988), and, of course, The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), among several other titles, many of which include actor Johnny Depp. Although Burton has never worked exclusively with Timothée Chalamet, one former Depp collab could be getting a live-action remake, and fans are pointing out that Chalamet would be the perfect fit for the lead role.
Timothée Chalamet in ‘The Corpse Bride’
2005’s The Corpse Bride opened to rave reviews, reuniting director Tim Burton with actor Johnny Depp. Telling the gothic story of Victor (Johnny Depp) and Victoria (Emily Watson), the animated film explores concepts such as death, arranged marriage, and the afterlife, all in Tim Burton’s typical signature fashion. Complete with a memorable score by the famed Danny Elfman, The Corpse Bride is an eerie good time for fans, leading to speculative theories that it may even bridge gaps between Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie. Although those two movies belong to Disney, The Corpse Bride feels very similar as it employs many of the same animation features Tim Burton has become known for.
Both Disney and Warner Bros have been exploring the idea of revamping old properties for new entertainment, with live-action remakes being a popular approach. Recently, Warner Bros. success with the Super Mario Bros. film has generated expectations for similar results with Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Willy Wonka. This has led to speculation about the possibility of a live-action version of the beloved Corpse Bride, which Warner Bros may consider. If this were to happen, Chalamet’s long-standing relationship with the studio could make him a strong candidate to replace Johnny Depp in the role. If fans have their way, the role already belongs to Chalamet.
Who Would Appear Next to Chalamet as Victoria
Although the idea of a live-action remake of The Corpse Bride featuring Timothée Chalamet may be a bit of a pipe dream, that hasn’t stopped fans from dream-casting the film, picking out famous names who, given the eye test, just may work within the roles. As Chalamet would take the lead as Victor Van Dort in the film, someone would have to take over as Emily, the undead bride who Depp’s character meets when he accidentally dies. According to fans of the film, there’s an obvious choice out there, one that seems to fit perfectly given her most recent success with the Netflix series Wednesday.
Much like Chalamet, Jenna Ortega has the pop-culture world talking after appearing alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones and others in last year’s hit Netflix series Wednesday, which gave fans a new look at the popular Addams Family character as she heads off to school. Popularized through social media for that unforgettable dance scene in the series, Jenna Ortega is the obvious choice to star in a live-action remake alongside Timothée Chalamet. Given her grasp of the gothic Addams Family daughter, Ortega would seemingly fit right in if Tim Burton wanted to take on the challenge of bringing his 2005 film to back to life.
It remains to be seen if The Corpse Bride will ever be remade with a live-action cast. Still, as Timothée Chalamet and Jenna Ortega are lighting up the acting world, Burton would definitely have to consider both for the lead roles. Until then, we can enjoy Chalamet’s new take on Willy Wonka as well as Ortega’s upcoming rumored role in Tim Burton’s Beetjuice 2 alongside Catherin O’Hara, Michael Keaton, and Wynona Ryder. In the meantime, fans of Tim Burton and The Corpse Bride will continue to lobby for who they think should take over as the leads in a live-action remake.
