The late Ed Asner to make an appearance in ‘Muppets Haunted Mansion’

The world lost veteran actor Ed Asner last month, but he’s set to make an appearance in the Muppets all-new Halloween special on October 8.

Ed Asner, perhaps best known for his role of newsroom boss Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, will appear in Muppets Haunted Mansion, which debuts on the Disney+ streaming platform next month.

The Muppets’ special is the second production in which Asner will have a role after his passing. He had reprised his role of Carl Fredricksen from Pixar’s Up before his passing in the new Disney+ series, Dug Days, which focuses on Carl and Dug the Dog in their new home. Most of Dug’s and Carl’s adventures take place in the backyard, but don’t let that fool you! It’s super cute and loads of fun to watch!

The Muppets’ first-ever Halloween special is inspired by the Haunted Mansion attractions at Disney Parks. It follows the story of Gonzo and an unfortunate scenario: he must spend the night at the Haunted Mansion. Fans can expect to see Gonzo, Pepe the King Prawn, Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzy, and all the gang in the new special.

In true Muppets fashion, Muppets Haunted Mansion will have everything we’ve come to expect from the Jim-Henson’s-turned-Disney’s wild and zany puppets–the traditional mayhem, hijinks, shenanigans, and complete tom-foolery, sprinkled with celebrity cameos throughout the picture, just when we least expect them!

Pat Sajak will also have a cameo role in the upcoming special, and more celebrities will join the Muppets cast as well.

The new special will air on Disney+ on October 8 as part of the streaming platform’s 2nd annual “Hallowstream” event featuring spooky Disney content, including Hocus Pocus, LEGO Star Wars: Terrifying Tales, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Maleficent, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Wizards of Waverly Place, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, Twitches, Twitches Too, The Haunted Mansion, Zombies, Zombies 2 and more.
