Romantic Disney Movies to Watch With Your Valentine
It’s the most romantic time of year and Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Couples love to spend this time cooking for each other, buying flowers and chocolate, taking a nice trip together, and just appreciating one another. Sometimes it’s also nice to just sit down with a bowl of popcorn and enjoy a movie together.
Since love is in the air, here are some perfect movies you can watch with your Valentine.
UP
We fully admit, this movie is sure to bring on the tears. However, it is one of Pixar’s best. The relationship between Carl and Ellie is one for the ages. Even though life throws them some pretty big curveballs, they never let that lessen their love for each other. Even after she is gone, Ellie makes sure to let Carl know just how much she loves him and encourages him to live his life to the fullest. May we all one day be like Carl and Ellie.
Beauty and the Beast
Truth be told, starting off your relationship by kidnapping a woman is not the best idea. Over the years, people have even claimed that Belle suffered from Stockholm Syndrome. However, the love that the two develop for each other has gone down in Disney history. Neither one of them liked each other nor wanted to be in the situation they were in. However, they soon got to know one another and realized that they had feelings for each other buried deep inside. Plus, the songs in Beauty and the Beast just can’t be beaten.
Enchanted
How do you know he loves you? Well, if you’re Giselle, then you don’t know Robert loves you until he kisses you after you eat a poisoned apple. Enchanted may be one of Disney’s more underrated movies, but this is a great movie to watch with your Valentine (or any other time of the year). Cartoon Giselle is thrust into the real world, where she meets Robert — a jaded divorce attorney– and they both come to realize that true love not only exists, but comes in all different forms.
The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement
It might be odd to see a sequel on the list, but Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement is a really fun movie to watch with your partner. Anne Hathaway reprises her role as Princess Mia Thermopolis, as she realizes that, if she wants to become queen of Genovia, then she must get married. She then thinks that she finds the perfect man, while at the same time is constantly at war with another man who threatens to take her throne. In true Disney fashion, sparks fly where they shouldn’t, and happily ever after isn’t too far away.
Wall-E
This adorable movie about a lonely robot who is working hard to clean Earth after humans ruined it just tugs at your heartstrings. Wall-E’s world is turned upside down when he meets EVE, and he does everything he can to be with her. You would think that a robot movie is not at the top of a Valentine’s Day movie list, but this is Disney, after all. The animated robots are so real, you can’t help but root for them. Wall-E and EVE forever.
The Little Mermaid
When I was a teenager, I completely identified with Ariel — well, except for the mermaid part. But you feel like you are such an adult at that age. Now that I am an actual adult, I am becoming more team King Triton — at 16-years-old, you are absolutely a child. While he definitely overreacted when he destroyed her grotto, we get where he was coming from. However, the chemistry between Ariel and Eric is undeniable. They both go to incredible lengths to protect each other and, in the end, true love really does conquer all.
Cinderella
One of Disney’s most classic love stories, Cinderella absolutely had to be on this list. If you ignore the part where the Prince had to go through most of the women in the kingdom before finding Cinderella, this movie has been making people believe in love at first sight for years. Of course, it made me believe that mice and birds would help me make dresses, but that’s beside the point. Cinderella is one of Disney’s ultimate love stories and perfect to watch with your significant other during a romantic evening.
Lady and the Tramp
Humans are not the only ones who get to fall in love — and Lady and the Tramp is the perfect example of that. Lady thinks that she is living her ideal life — and she isn’t really wrong. However, when Tramp comes into the picture, everything changes. Even though things get pretty scary for Lady, Tramp is always by her side, ready to protect her. They slowly fall in love with each other and have a beautiful family together.
Tangled
While it may be Rapunzel who dreams of seeing the light, it is really Flynn — AKA Eugene — who finally has the lightbulb go on over his head. Tangled tells the amazing story of a kidnapped princess and a man who would do anything to become rich. While they may not really get along all that well at first, their feelings become too much to ignore and they both realize that they do not want to be without one another. And who doesn’t want to take a beautiful boat ride with floating lanterns surrounding them?
Aladdin
Let’s get one thing out of the way, lying to the girl you like is not the best way to start off a relationship. However, we can definitely understand where Aladdin is coming from. He doesn’t think that he is good enough for a Princess, but he is determined to show her that he is. Jasmine simply wants to live a life outside of the palace walls. Aladdin comes along and shows her a whole new world, and their love is able to withstand the white lie (and a giant magical snake).
We hope that this list has given you some great ideas during this romantic time of year. Of course, it’s always a great time to watch a Disney movie, so you can access this list any time of year!
