In October 2023, the American children’s show Chip Chilla launched, and Australians are not fans of the new American show. Seen by many as a blatant rip-off of the beloved Blueymany Australians are actively speaking out against the children’s show.

Chip Chilla was created as a pinnacle piece of The Daily Wire’s newest streaming network, Bentkey. This new streaming platform launched on October 16, 2023, conveniently the same day as the Walt Disney Company’s 100th Anniversary.

However, many have noticed more than a few “convenient coincidences” surrounding this new children’s show.

Shortly after the show’s release on Bentkey, viewers noticed some key similarities between Chip Chilla and the popular Australian children’s show Bluey.

From the animation style to the color scheme to the opening music, it all seemed a little too similar. Both shows follow an animal family through daily life, addressing challenges, adventures, and relationships.

Additionally, the only differences between the two shows were found to be very intentional. The Daily Wire is known for its strong right-wing conservative views. According to co-founder Jeremy Boering, it seems that Chip Chilla was the answer to a popular children’s show that didn’t subject children to Disney’s “woke” agenda.

Boreing said Bentkey is about “childhood and wonder and adventure.” The app, he added, is “about values and all of the things on which politics are built later.” It’s just a coincidence that in Chip Chilla, the children are homeschooled, and the mom works all day cooking and taking care of the home, while in Bluey, both parents are seen taking equal parts in parenting.

Aussies Are NOT Happy

After the show’s release, there was a lot of immediate backlash from viewers calling out Chip Chilla for copying Bluey, but Australians took the situation to heart.

Bluey is a beloved show worldwide, but the show originated in Australia, giving fans a sense of pride in the award-winning programming.

Reporters on 9News Australia called the situation a “national disgrace.” Even Adrian Schrinner, Lord Mayor of Brisbane, spoke out against Chip Chilla on social media.

One review on IMDb includes:

Imagine the most uncreative copycat trash. This is it.

I feel like ive seen this show before. The music. The colors. The family dynamic. All similar to Bluey but with a horrible story line and a feeling of a toxic family. They father is wearing a headset for God’s sake. In Bluey it’s obvious the parents are hard workers but the emphasis on family time in Bluey is not rushed.

The chin chilas are basically just an “american dream” family but are overworked suckers in a rat race.

Poorly done and just a rip off of a truly iconic show with zero fun or good story line. Bluey teaches kids about deep emotional feelings and connections. This show is just stupid. Now imagine introducing your kids to this garbage when Bluey already exists.

After the pushback and outspoken outrage from both Australians and Bluey fans around the globe, many are hoping that Bentkey’s new show will be short-lived. With over 600 reviews, the show is currently rated 3.8 out of 10 stars on IMDb.

However, this is not the only children’s programming you will find on Bentkey.

The streaming platform is home to four shows titled “Bentkey Adventures,” also including A Wonderful Day with Mabel Maclay, Kid Explorer, and Kid Fit Go! Additionally, it also features more international children’s programming, in addition to the American patriotism showcased in the “Bentkey Adventures” series.

About Megan Losey

As a Disney foodie, I love writing about Disney food and snacks. Some of my favorites are the Carrot Cake Cookie from Trolley Car Cafe, the Mickey Beignets from Port Orleans French Quarter, and the Apple Blossom from Port Orleans Riverside. When I'm visiting the parks, you can find me on Main Street taking in the good vibe of Magic Kingdom or relaxing with a drink at the Polynesian watching the fireworks from the beach. As a previous Cast Member, I will always have a special place in my heart for the Magic Kingdom, especially Main Street U.S.A.

  1. I mean, the show wasn’t ever meant to be a Bluey rip-off. In fact, DW never meant ill-will to Bluey, they even praised it. I guess “Aussies” get a bit defensive for their only good export

  2. Lol get BentKeyed
