Disney World Annual Passes went on sale at 7:00 am this morning. Guests lined up beginning at 6:00 am to snag their pass (hopefully armed with our tips). Why the urgency? Because no one has been able to buy a Disney World Annual Pass in more than a year.

After a rough start this morning, Passes went live at 7:00 but shortly after, the site crashed leaving would-be passholders wondering if they’d get their pass today after all. No one was sure at that time if Annual Passes were sold out or if Disney’s infamous IT had struck again. Luckily the site was back up roughly an hour later and sales resumed.

At 5:00 pm many are still stuck waiting, wondering if they’ll be able to buy their pass today, or even at all. Many say they’ve been on the queue to buy for more than 6 hours.
We have been watching the situation closely all day, including the fine print on the website. The people still in the queue to buy may indeed find themselves out of luck. Disney never implicitly stated whether Passes would sell out and new sale “paused” again or not but we suspected they would be.

Around 2:00 pm Disney updated the site. You’d have to look closely to see it but it’s there. Disney has confirmed not only that passes will be limited but that they expect they will sell out today.
Just like official attendance and capacity numbers, Disney never specifies ticket sales. Just how many tickets are “limited” for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party has always been a source of great speculation. Now we can add Annual Pass sales to that list. No one knows how many Passes they plan to sell. In fact, no one knows if even Disney knows how many Passes will be sold before they cease sales. All we know is that if you plan to become an Annual Oassholder today, you’d better hurry (and have a fair bit of luck on your side).
