Cinco De Mayo may have come and gone but that doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate with our favorite margaritas at Walt Disney World! The debate about who has the best margaritas on property is fierce, but one spot is far and away the best in our book! It’s so good that we won’t even drink margaritas anywhere else!
I’m talking about La Cava del Tequila of course! While many locations come close, nowhere is quite on the same level as La Cava. This Mexican-inspired tequila bar in the heart of EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion offers a wide range of tequila, mezcal, and other Mexican spirits. When we say “a wide range” we mean it. The bar stocks over 200 tequilas and mezcals, ranging from classic and popular brands to small-batch and aged varieties. La Cava also offers tequila flights, allowing guests to sample several tequilas side-by-side to compare flavors and notes.
As soon as you walk in you’re transported to a Mexican tequila cellar. The rustic (and authentic Mexican feel, features brick walls, exposed wooden beams, and low lighting (and air conditioning, unlike the walk-up stand out front). The ambiance is relaxed and comfortable which makes it perfect for taking a midday break from the crowds and heat (we are all about a midday break here).
In addition to the impressive selection of spirits, La Cava del Tequila also offers a variety of Mexican-inspired cocktails. Some of the most popular drinks on the menu include the Blood Orange Margarita, the Avocado Margarita, and the Jalapeño Margarita, each made with fresh ingredients (including some grown right at EPCOT in the Living With the Land attraction)! Personally, our favorite is the Blood Orange Margarita (Ambhar Blanco tequila, orange liqueur, sweet-tart mix of blood orange, hint of rum and vanilla, Tajín chile-lime powder rim).
The quality here can’t be beat. While Choza de Margarita is popular, it lacks variety (and quality but that’s a whole other can of worms). Paradiso 37 with its similar menu offerings comes close, but it lands just shy of La Cava. San Angel Inn and La Hacienda are good but with so many other specialties on the menu, they just don’t have the panache that a dedicated tequila bar has.
The wait here can sometimes be long (and as of this writing they don’t take Reservations) but it’s absolutely worth it. Put your name on the list and enjoy the cool air and the always dusk atmosphere of the Mexican Pavilion while you wait. While I wouldn’t recommend a ride on Gran Fiesta Tour while you wait (I’ve never known the wait to be that long), you can peruse the “open air” market that is just outside the bar.
