Quick! Think about the most iconic ride at any Disney Park. If The Haunted Mansion wasn’t at the top of your list, I bet it wasn’t far off. This grim grinning ride has been delighting guests for decades. Present in one form or another, The Haunted Mansion is iconic. Soon, the classic attraction will be getting its first ever expansion at one Disney Park!
The ride first debuted at Disneyland Park in Anaheim in 1969. In fact, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion was one of the last attractions that Walt Disney personally oversaw. Later, The Haunted Mansion came to Walt Disney World in 1971 as an opening day attraction. International Parks followed suit though each iteration was slightly different to accommodate cultural sensitivities surrounding death.
Now the original is getting an update! Early next year the upside of the attraction is getting a brand new outdoor areas. This won’t just be any old refurbishment. This is going to be a massive expansion that will bring the story of the Haunted Mansion to life in all new ways!
Th new areas will be comprised of three distinct gardens, each inspired by one of the mansions spirited haunts. The first will pay homage to the mansions owner, Master Gracey himself, the second garden will be themed around the one-eyed cat and the third will pay tribute to the enigmatic Madam Leota!
Disney has yet to release many details on the Haunted Mansion expansion but what they have said so far leaves us excited for the project to get underway! Master Gracey’s garden will be just as it was in his life: full of the finer things in life. Gazebos, fountains, and statues will adorn the park-like setting as guests lounge under heirloom trees surrounded by fresh flowers!
The One-Eyed Cat garden will feature a pet cemetery and statues for some of the mansion’s four legged dearly departed. The most exciting garden of all will be the mysterious one belonging to Madame Leota! Disney has heavily hinted that this garden will be interactive and that guests will be able to use “spells” to activate special effects throughout the area!
Construction will begin on tuebHaunted Mansion expansion in January and at that time, Disney has promised additional updates. Disney has currently not released when the project is expected to be completed. Stay tuned right here at Disney Dining for more details as they’re released.
