There are so many delicious savory food options at Walt Disney World. From grilled corn at Animal Kingdom, to fresh grilled vegetables at Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT, to classics like a Casey’s Corner hot dog at Magic Kingdom — there are so many awesome options.

Seasonal offerings are also a highlight of menu offerings at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. Some of our favorites are on this list, and some are new additions for summer 2022. Be sure to check this list of savory bites before your next Disney vacation. From street food and comfort food to seasonal flavors, fresh vegetables, and summer recipes, there are so many savory summer foods to try at Walt Disney World.

These food trends are new for summer 2022: here is the savory food we love

Butcher Steak

Guests tend to have mixed feelings about Tony’s Town Square Restaurant on Main Street, U.S.A., in the Magic Kingdom. For some Guests, visiting this restaurant is a staple on a Disney vacation. For others, the food seems lackluster for the price. We have some good news about changes coming to Tony’s Town Square Restaurant during the summer of 2022. New appetizers are hitting the menu like the Toy Box Tomato Salad and Tony’s Garlic Bread.

New entrées to sample include a juicy and flavor-packed Butcher Steak, penne with Chicken Al Forno, Oven-roasted Shrimp Scampi, and even Orecchiette with Spicy Italian Sausage. I would definitely plan another dinner at Tony’s Town Square Restaurant during a summer visit to sample some of these new main courses.

When it comes to dessert, Guests can dig into new delicacies like Tony’s Spumoni TartMandarincello CustardItalian Strawberry Shortcake, or even a Tiramisu Cannoli. The Italian Strawberry Shortcake is sure to be a slam dunk this summer, after all, summer is strawberry season! Still, the Tiramisu Cannoli sounds incredible, so these desserts are tied on my must-try list. I’ll just have to try them both!

Cheesy Pizza Rolls

You don’t need a special occasion to chow down on this next new item. If you are looking for a delicious and simple new snack at EPCOT, look no further than Sunshine Seasons in The Land Pavilion. Located in Future World, The Land is one of my all-time favorite areas at EPCOT and home to awesome rides like Sorin’ Around the World and Living with the Land. Our summer 2022 trip to The Land Pavilion will be all about Sunshine Seasons, where we are sampling a new menu addition!

I am excited to try the new cheese pizza rolls at Sunshine Season this summer. This warm and flaky folded crust is folded around melty cheese and looks utterly irresistible. Pizza rolls are a classic comfort food perfect for summer. If you’re more of a pepperoni fan, don’t worry, equally delicious pepperoni pizza rolls are also available at this quick-service dining location. Pizza rolls are going to be the perfect quick and delicious savory bite to snack on between attractions at EPCOT. We cannot wait to try this new snack.

Plant-based dining at Walt Disney World does not have to be a drag. There are always delicious options at quick service and table service restaurants around the Walt Disney World property for Guests looking for plant-based or vegan options. Several Walt Disney World Resorts are upping their plant-based game with updated menus this summer. The Impossible Burger is a new burger option topped with Carolina-style barbecued jackfruit and pickled slaw. The burger is topped with vegan “cheddar cheese” and served with French fries.

It is available at the World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Movie Resort, Everything Pop Shopping and Dining at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Center Town Market at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and several other quick-service dining locations at Walt Disney World Resorts.

We all know that food is more delicious when it is Mickey-shaped! Lucky for us, the addition of a new Mickey-shaped frittata is arriving right in time for summer. Another Mickey-shaped breakfast item, this plant-based entrée is sure to be a hit! This frittata features spinach, onions, vegan “mozzarella cheese”, and, tomato served with sides of fried potatoes and mixed fruit. Talk about starting off your day right, this breakfast makes for a delicious meal.

Shrimp and Grits

A deluxe Resort that is near and dear to our heart is also getting a menu revamp this summer. That’s right, we’re talking about the Grand Floridian Café located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Last week we talked about the incredible sweets that are gracing the menu at Gasparilla Island Grill. This week, we are discussing the savory options that are not to be missed at Grand Floridian Café.

The beloved Reuben Sandwich that is accompanied by crunchy coleslaw and savory steak fries is back on the menu. If you’re visiting, the Chicken and Waffles or the Café Meatloaf are two great new options to try at Grand Floridian Café. If neither of those sounds like the right choice — try the Shrimp and Grits, which features jumbo shrimp, chorizo and fennel served over creamy and rich mascarpone cheese grits.

Fans of cheesy and steamy French onion soup will be excited to learn that there is a new location where they can enjoy this delicious dish. Grand Floridian Café is now serving up Caramelized Onion Soup Gratin that is making a comeback for dinner and the unique dining period each day that this fun eatery deems as “Blunch”.

Grilled Chicken Citrus Salad

I am super excited about menu additions coming to a beloved Hollywood Studios restaurant. That’s right, folks, I’m talking about the menu expansion at Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater Restaurant. Dining at this fun spot is a must-do for vintage fans, those that love Old Hollywood, and Guests that love immersive Disney Dining. This restaurant serves Guests in a retro classic car at a drive-in theater that plays movie clips from yesteryear. Just the experience itself is worth a visit to this restaurant, but with the new menu items that premiered on June 2, 2022, you will have an even harder time passing up for lunch or dinner theater restaurant.

Delicious new appetizers like the Sci-Fi Smoked Wings and Spinach and Artichoke Dip are perfect appetizers to kick off your meal with. Kick off this delicious meal with melt-in-your-mouth wings tossed in a porter barbecue sauce, with a house-made pineapple and poppy seed coleslaw on the side. Talk about yum-factor!  The spinach and artichoke dip checks off two boxes being a delicious appetizer and a plant-based option made from a blend of spinach, artichoke, red pepper, cashew cheese, cauliflower, and, oat milk. This steaming dip is served with fresh house-made chips.

I am most excited about the salad additions to this menu. The Black Garlic Caesar Salad and a Grilled Chicken Citrus Salad are sure to be big hits with Guests. The Black Garlic Caesar Salad is bursting with flavor made from petite romaine, grilled hearts of artichoke, shaved Parmesan cheese, crispy chopped applewood smoked bacon, and is all slathered in a house-made black garlic Caesar dressing. The salad is served with a crusty, crunchy toasted crostini.

The Grilled Chicken Citrus Salad recipe is made from running lettuce, spinach, and arugula and is garnished with rainbow tomatoes, sweet candied pecans, flavorful cranberries, and feta cheese then drizzled with a house-made citrus dressing and tossed with grilled marinated chicken. Nothing beats a summer salad and savory salads with delicious meat, fresh local ingredients, and seasonal flavors.

Pork on Pork Burger

If you’re craving burgers, Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater Restaurant has excellent options. The Feature Film Burger is comfort food with a summer twist on surf and turf. The patty is composed of a blend of beef and fresh seasonings, served on a fluffy brioche bun and topped with shrimp and crab cake. The burger meat is also slathered with pepper jack cheese, chipotle hollandaise sauce, heirloom tomatoes, arugula, and a house-made vinaigrette. This is one interesting burger option, but I can’t wait to try it on my next vacation.

Good news for those that tried it and loved a previously featured item on this Hollywood Studios menu, the Pork on Pork Burger has been awarded a forever home on the updated menu at this restaurant. A meat lover’s dream, the Pork on Pork Burger is (as you may imagine) a meaty and delicious entrée that features a grilled pork patty topped with roasted pork belly, white sharp cheddar cheese, topped with caramelized onions, and cabbage slaw. The sandwich is drizzled with a tangy Carolina mustard sauce.

About Katie Chapman

Hey There! I am a Georgia native with a passion for writing, traveling, cooking, decorating, pugs and of course all things Disney. Growing up in South Georgia just a few hours from Walt Disney World made for a magical childhood. Some of my best memories were made on Main Street U.S.A. with my sister watching SpectroMagic nighttime parade or beside my grandparents, parents and extended family at Chef Mickey’s celebrating on a family vacation. Epcot was my favorite park from a young age and I credit it with my interest in and love for international travel. As a kid I loved meeting characters and watching films around World Showcase and could spend hours exploring each of the countries in Epcot. These days, my husband and I get away to explore a new country whenever we can and even incorporate trips to The Disney Store and Disney Parks around the world in our travels. One of our travel goals is to visit every Disney Park in the world. I love writing about Disney restaurants, park tips, Disney outfit inspiration and Disney history. Pocahontas is my favorite Disney Princess (90s kid here!) but Mr. Toad is my spirit animal. When I’m not at Disney I’m reading about park history, watching Disney documentaries and shopping vintage Disney merch for park outfits. I never pass up a reservation to Ohana, an empty seat on Living with the Land or a Violet Sake.
