Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Entertainment, announced today that Disney Junior will soon welcome Ariel to the family! The new character will be based on the live-action version of Ariel. “For more than 30 years, the story of ‘The Little Mermaid’ has been beloved by audiences all over the world. It brings me so much joy to be able to introduce our new Disney Junior version of Ariel to preschoolers everywhere,” said Davis.

The show, which will simply be called, Ariel, will showcase the mermaid’s curiosity and imagination. Viewers will join her as she goes on under sea adventures to add to her collection of “human stuff”! Her grotto will become a sparkly crystal cavern in the new show. According to the official synopsis Ariel’s treasures will include finds like “like a big floppy hat, squeaky rubber ducky and whisk, that she collects and keeps safe in her crystal cavern.” The synopsis also says that she will use these items to help her solve problems.

Her ocean dwelling friends are set to join her on her new adventures. Flounder and Sebastian are back to help her on her journey. Her tail will charm preschoolers as it changes colors and sparkles depending on her mood.

“As we were developing ‘Disney Junior’s Ariel,’ we knew that we wanted to create an atmosphere that was vibrant and magical and showcased our young Ariel’s imagination, which, like our preschool audience watching at home, is as big as the sea,” explained Alyssa Sapire, senior vice president of development, series and strategy for Disney Junior.

The show is being produced by Wild Canary, the same company that produced Miles From Tomorrowland. The series will debut on Disney platforms worldwide, including Disney Junior and Disney+, in 2024. No specific start date was given for the show. As soon as that changes we will be sure to update you. Stay tuned right here, we will make sure to keep you up to date.

She likes to say Disney is in her blood and writing is in her bones — so any time she has the opportunity to combine these loves she is one happy camper! When she isn't exploring or writing about Disney Parks, Jill is homeschooling her 8 year old son, playing with her brand new baby son, or pretending to be a farmer on her family homestead (despite being unable to keep even a cactus alive).
