Is Dwayne Johnson helping make the newest Pirates of the Caribbean?

Dwayne Johnson’s collaboration with Disney has been a successful and mutually beneficial partnership that has spanned several years. Known for his charismatic personality and versatile acting skills, Johnson has become a prominent figure in the Disney family, contributing to various projects. Johnson is working on live-action Moana, but has starred in Jungle Cruise, The Tooth Fairy, The Game Plan, and many more films.

The relationship between Johnny Depp and Disney has been a subject of intrigue and controversy over the years. Dead Man’s Chest (2006), At World’s End(2007), On Stranger Tides (2011), and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), continued Captain Jack’s escapades, introducing new characters, supernatural elements, and epic battles. Johnny Depp’s performance as Captain Jack Sparrow was nothing short of iconic. He brought a unique blend of charm, eccentricity, and wit to the character, making it one of the most beloved and recognizable figures in modern cinema.

Depp went through multiple trials following allegations from Amber Heard, including losing a lawsuit against The Sun, which had referred to him as a “wife-beater” in relation to his legal dispute with his ex-wife Amber Heard. Disney reportedly became concerned about Johnny Depp’s personal troubles and their potential impact on the family-friendly image of the Pirates of the Caribbean. Though the two faced off in a defamation trial later that saw Depp come away the winner, Disney continued to distance itself from the actor.

There were reports that Disney executives were considering a change in direction for the franchise, possibly moving forward without Depp’s involvement. Dwayne Johnson emerged as a prominent figure who might potentially fill the void left by Johnny Depp, though no official confirmation had surfaced. Additionally, many Disney fans held onto hope for a Johnny Depp comeback in the sixth installment of the series.

Disney had already acknowledged that it was exploring multiple script options, one of which featured Margot Robbie as the lead in a reboot of sorts. Nevertheless, the precise direction the company would take remained uncertain.

Of course, everyone knows that the franchise was started by the beloved attraction located at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction allows guests to board a weathered barge for a treacherous voyage to the 17th century when rowdy rogues and ruthless rapscallions ransacked Caribbean seaport towns. Sing along as pirates serenade you with their anthem, “Yo Ho, Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).” Sail past haunted Dead Man’s Cove. Navigate cannon fire between a Caribbean fort and a striking 12-gun galleon. Behold boisterous buccaneers drunk on the spoils of plunderin’ as flames engulf a seaside town.

While the extent of Dwayne Johnson’s involvement in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 remains uncertain, Disney has officially announced his significant role in producing a Disney+ series. This series will spotlight the beloved Disney park attraction, among others.

Disney’s recent announcement reveals that Behind the Attraction Season 2 is set for release on Disney+ on November 1, 2023. This new season will offer an in-depth look at popular Disney attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Indiana Jones Adventure, EPCOT, cherished Disney cuisine, and nighttime spectaculars. The season will consist of six episodes.

Dwayne Johnson, along with Dany Garcia and Brian Volk-Weiss, will serve as Executive Producers for this project.

We’ll have to wait to see if Johnson will play a role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but it is interesting to see his involvement in this Disney project.
