On October 12, the world was saddened to learn that Dame and Disney Legend Angela Lansbury, had passed away at the age of 96. Lansbury had a long and incredible career that included a lot of work with The Walt Disney Company. She starred as Miss Eglantine Price in the classic film Bedknobs and Broomsticks in 1971. About 20 years later, she returned to voice the character of Mrs. Potts in Disney’s Oscar-winning film Beauty and the Beast. Most recently, she portrayed The Balloon Lady in Mary Poppins Returns.

After her death, other Disney and Hollywood Legends took to social media to honor the late actress, including former Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Disney’s beloved Mrs. Potts, Angela Lansbury…a consummate professional, a talented actress, and a lovely person. Rest In Peace.

Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth — who also starred in Disney’s Descendants franchise — also honored Ms. Lansbury.

Nobody did Mame quite like her. Rest in peace, Angela Lansbury. Thank you for your art & wisdom ?

Disney Legend Alan Menken — who has written a number of hit Disney songs, including Lansbury’s “Beauty and the Beast” — also shared his heartbreak.

I’m so saddened to hear of Angela Lansbury’s passing. She shined so bright in so many roles and in so many ways. And, yet, the actual, real, beautiful, precious person that she was, outshone them all. I feel blessed and privileged to have played any kind of role in her life…

D23 President Jeffrey R. Epstein also shared a beautiful wreath set up next to Lansbury’s handprints on the Disney lot.

Playbill also shared a touching tribute where they quoted Lansbury saying how she wanted to be remembered. According to Playbill, Lansbury said:

“I’d like them to think ‘consummate performer’ and that really just came into my head. I am a performer, and I never want to be thought of only as a star or as a celebrity. I just want to be a meaningful, entertaining performer.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Beauty and the Beast — plus the Beauty and the Beast sing-along — and Mary Poppins Returns are currently available to stream on Disney+.
