Editor of the original Star Wars films, George Lucas’s ex-wife, Marcia Lucas, has made her opinion on Disney’s Star Wars films abundantly clear.

Any new Star Wars movie (and the general frustration surrounding how Disney changed it) is a hot topic for fans to debate. For years, Star Wars fans have expressed their disappointment with the series’ progress. After the Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm from then-owner George Lucas, the company gave the franchise the standard media conglomerate treatment.

Many feel that after this, the Star Wars franchise lost its touch and vibe.

Many fans have shared time and again that while Disney might have developed the Star Wars franchise and turned it into a broader world, including new Jedi like Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson) and Rey Skywalker, the company has ruined the iconic science fiction series.

However, while many executives involved with the project have only been supportive of Disney’s films, one former member of the production team—Marcia Lucas—is of a different opinion, and didn’t hold back when sharing it.

Lucas opined not only about Star Wars but also about Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and more:

‘I like Kathleen. I always liked her…She was fill of beans. She was really smart and really bright. Really wonderful woman. And I liekd her husband, Frank. I liked them a lot. Now that she’s running Lucasfilm and making movies it seems to me that Kathy Kennedy and J.J. Abrams don’t have a clue about ‘Star Wars.”

Lucas continued, “J.J. Abrams is writing these stories—whe I saw that movie where they kill Han Solo, I was furious. I was furious when they killed Han Solo. Absolutely, positively, there was no rhyme or reason to it. I thought, ‘You don’t get the Jedi story. You don’t get the magic of ‘Star Wars.’ You’re getting rid of Han Solo?'”

Lucas even went so far as to criticize the production schedule noting that the company was spitting out movies every year but they are constantly killing off iconic characters (think Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill), Han Solo and more.

Similar to many other proponents of the “woke” campaign against Disney, Lucas also noted that the company was prioritizing female leads in an attempt to cater to women as an audience.

But rather than having an issue with a woman leading the story, Lucas called out the fact that audiences don’t know where Rey gets her Jedi powers from, or who she is. “It sucks. The storylines are terrible,” she concluded.

What do you think of Disney’s changes and current run of “Star Wars”? Do you miss the old feel of the franchise, and agree with Marcia Lucas? Or do you prefer Disney’s treatment of the franchise? Let Disney Dining know in the comments!

  1. Old story from last year.

  2. Considering you had to come with “it was true from a certain point of view” you clearly didn’t have a clue what the story was.

  3. While I agree with Marcia it’s a bit late as these stories have hit the screen.
Maybe even worse than killing heroes is the fact that 2 droids, one built by a 9 year old, have been involved with the entire series spanning what 60 – 70 years. Technology advances slow in the Galaxy Far Far Away.
