It’s been almost fifty years since George Lucas took fans to a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) introduced viewers to things they have never heard or seen before — a Wookie, lightsabers, Stormtroopers, and hyperspace, just to name a few. The film completely changed the industry and science fiction movies as we knew them. Since the release of A New Hope, there have been eight other films made, expanding the Star Wars universe.

In 2012, The Walt Disney Company purchased Lucasfilm for more than $4 billion. Since then, there have been three new Star Wars films — Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015), Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017), and Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019). There has also been a slew of Star Wars series created for Disney+, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka.

Each year, Star Wars fans around the world celebrate Star Wars Day, which takes place on May 4. And this year, Disney is doing something its never done before.
