The Walt Disney Company is at it again. “It” being sinking all its time and effort into remaking Disney classic animated films – some of which didn’t even come out that long ago. But here we are Disney fanatics, and those still holding out hope for some magic turn around in a slew of recent lackluster projects. Brace yourselves for the live-action Princess and the Frog starring Princess Tiana as you’ve never seen her before.
I hate to be a stickler when it comes to this “live-action” terminology, but if over half you movie needs CGI to make it “live-action” then how live action is it really?? Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King, anybody? If you’ve seen the 2009 Princess and the Frog, then you know a good portion of the film follows Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen as frogs talking to animal inhabitants of a New Orleans bayou. So unless Disney takes some unheard of puppet-route, it’s going to be animated.
I understand that “live-action” in this sense merely suggests hyperrealistic non-human characters, so I’ll let it go for now.
Wait, if we get a Live Action Princess and the Frog the movies gonna be them ugly CGI realistic frogs with no emotions? pic.twitter.com/Ljab9gQBzt

What audiences are asking most, is how Disney’s current trend toward “wokeism,” as critics put it, is going to affect Princess Tiana. Disney Studios’ creative casting decisions have come under major fire more notably in the 2023 remake of The Little Mermaid starring black actress Halle Bailey as Princess Ariel and the upcoming adaptation of Snow White starring a Colombian actress and average sized people in the place of dwarfs.
Fans are worried about how this trend will affect the first black Disney Princess. Critics of Disney’s diversity choices were quick to point out that Disney wouldn’t dare race swap Princess Tiana, as in the case of Ariel and Snow White. But as for other elements, even Disney’s fiercest supporters are a little worried, feeling as if Disney is really just “scrapping the bottom of the barrel” for ideas.
Either way, fans agree – we love Princess Tiana and hope Disney stays true to her story!
What do you expect in the form of “woke” choices for Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Princess and the Frog?
As far as puppets go, fans are looking into Kermit the Frog‘s availability.
