More Details of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to Be Revealed at D23 Expo
There are some attractions at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort that Guests consider iconic. One of those attractions is Splash Mountain — located in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and Critter Country in Disneyland — and there was a ton of controversy when Disney announced that the ride would be getting a complete retheme at both Resorts. The original attraction was based on the film Song of the South, which is now considered to be racially insensitive, and Disney decided that the attraction should not be associated with something like that.
Disney first announced its plans to retheme the ride back in 2020, but didn’t give any real details, except that the new theme would be inspired by the hit Disney film, The Princess and the Frog. It took just about two years, but we finally know that the ride will be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and is scheduled to open at both Resorts sometime in 2024.
So, right now, we have a name, a potential opening year, and a few details. However, we will soon be learning a lot more! According to Disney, more details on the ride will be revealed at this year’s D23 Expo. The D23 Expo will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center — right across from the Disneyland Resort — and will take place from September 9 – 11. At the Expo, there will be a pavilion called the Wonderful World of Dreams, where Guests can learn more about what’s coming to the Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line.
Disney Parks Blog shared a little more information on the pavilion:
From the moment D23 Expo 2022 begins, attendees will be able to explore the Disney Parks Wonderful World of Dreams pavilion and step right into the new stories, attractions and adventures Disney Imagineers are bringing to life around the globe. There will be behind-the-scenes glimpses of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the transformation of EPCOT, new Frozen-themed experiences, Disney Cruise Line, live entertainment and more to explore at the pavilion.
Now, we don’t know exactly what details will be revealed, but here is what we know about the new attraction:
The theme is inspired by an all-time favorite animated Disney film, “The Princess and the Frog.” We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.
Tiana is a modern, courageous, and empowered woman, who pursues her dreams and never loses sight of what’s really important. It’s a great story with a strong lead character, set against the backdrop of New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou. In 1966, Walt himself opened New Orleans Square when it became the first new “land” added to Disneyland park, so it feels natural to link the story and the incredible music of “The Princess and the Frog” to our parks.
This year’s D23 Expo is sold out, but Disney Dining will keep you updated with any and all information we learn about Disney movies, upcoming Pixar films, Disney Park changes, and more at the Expo!
