Disney Cruise Line Increases Gratuity Recommendations For Guests

A few days ago, Disney christened its newest cruise ship, the Disney Wish. The Disney Wish joins the four other beautiful ships in the Disney Cruise Line — the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder, the Disney Dream, and the Disney Fantasy. The Disney Cruise Line brings Disney magic onto the high seas, and Guests who are able to experience the wonder know that it is a trip they will not soon forget. When you take a Disney Cruise, everything you need is taken care of and the Cast Members work hard to make sure everything on the ship runs smoothly.

Just like at the theme parks, Disney Cruise ships would not be the same without the Cast Members. While tipping Cast Members at the Parks is only really common at restaurants and in housekeeping, tipping most of the Cast Members you interact with on a cruise is more common. Cast Members on a Disney Cruise Line ship do everything from helping you book excursions to bringing you towels wherever you are on board. Because of how hard the Cast Members work and everything they do, Disney Cruise Line is increasing its recommended tipping amounts for Guests.

According to the Disney Cruise Line:

Since our very first sailing, Guests have told us how much they enjoy their interactions with the Crew Members. Providing world-class service and creating life-long memories for our Guests are among the most common comments we receive.

In recognition of all that they do, we have increased our recommended gratuity guidelines for select positions. The recommended increase is $0.25 per person/per day for the Assistant Dining Room Server, Dining Room Server, Dining Room Head Server and Stateroom Host/Hostess. The total recommended gratuity is $14.50 per person/per day based on the length of the cruise.

For Concierge Guests we have added the Assistant Stateroom Host/Hostess position to our recommended gratuities. The recommended gratuity is $15.50 per person/per day based on the length of the cruise for Concierge Guests. Additionally, our Concierge Guests often ask for guidance regarding gratuities for the Concierge Lounge Team. As a suggestion, we recommend $8 per Guest/per day for the voyage, but it is always up to the Guest to determine what they feel is appropriate.

It is also important to note that Disney Cruise Line Cast Members also take care of the cabanas at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. So, if you are taking a Disney Cruise that stops in Castaway Cay and you plan on booking a cabana, it is recommended (but not required) that you consider adding a little more into your tip amount as a “thank you”.

As always, tips are not required, but are highly recommended. Guests can also choose to prepay their gratuities for their Disney Cruise.
