Despite Claims of Becoming More Inclusive, Disney Has Indefinitely Delayed Its ‘Princess and the Frog’ Sequel

With all of the controversy surrounding the closure of Magic Kingdom’s Splash Mountain attraction and its retheme into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, The Princess and the Frog (2009) has had the spotlight for the first time in over ten years.

When the film first debuted, audiences were immediately dazzled. Princess Tiana swiftly became a fan favorite princess. Guests visiting Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom have had the chance to meet Tiana at the Princess Fairytale Hall, see her atop parade floats, and during live performances.

But now that Princess Tiana is getting her own attraction, fans are more excited than ever. However, high spirits are about to be dampened once the word spreads about Princess Tiana’s spinoff series being delayed indefinitely.

This spinoff series, titled Tiana, was meant to follow the events of the film. The show’s premise revolved around Princess Tiana’s role as “the newly crowned princess” of Maldonia, Prince Naveen’s home country. Fans learned all of this in 2021 when Deadline revealed Disney’s plans for the series.

When Tiana was first announced, the show’s release year was projected for 2022, which was delayed to 2023…which was, in turn, delayed to 2024. The release year kept getting pushed back until, finally, a release year was dropped altogether.

Now, Princess Tiana’s spinoff series lives in production limbo.

Currently, we don’t know why Tiana has been indefinitely delayed. It may have something to do with the high production costs and low profit returns of Disney+ series, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Hopefully, more news will be released once Tiana’s Bayou Adventure debuts in Magic Kingdom. Until then, unfortunately, fans of The Princess and the Frog have one less TV series to excitedly wait for.
