Complimentary PhotoPass Coming to Disney Genie+!

PhotoPass Disney Genie Plus

Last year, Disney introduced one of its most controversial decisions to Guests visiting both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort — Disney Genie+. Disney Genie+ replaced the incredibly popular — and free — FastPass system that had been in place at the theme parks for years. Disney Genie started out at one set price, but now the price varies based on the day of the week and the time of the year. Since its implementation at Walt Disney World Resort in October 2021, Guests have frequently expressed their annoyance.

Well, it doesn’t look like Disney Genie+ is going anywhere anytime soon, Disney is working to make Guests feel like they are getting more bang for their buck. On January 10, theme park reporter Scott Gustin shared that Walt Disney World Guests who purchase Disney Genie+ will soon get free attraction PhotoPass downloads. A start date has not been announced for this new Disney Park perk.

NEW: Guests with Genie+ at WDW will receive complimentary digital downloads of their PhotoPass attraction photos on the day of Genie+ purchase. Updated: No start date announced yet. Coming in the next few months.

Disney now offering complimentary attraction PhotoPass downloads for Disney World Genie+ purchases is following in the steps of what has been in place at Disneyland Resort from the beginning. When Genie+ was first introduced, it cost $15 per day per Guest at Walt Disney World Resort and $20 per Guest per day at Disneyland Resort. One of the reasons it was more expensive at Disneyland was because Guests received PhotoPass downloads.

Since Disney changed the set price of Genie+ to one that fluctuates, it makes sense to give Guests at Disney World some of the same perks as Guests at Disneyland Genie+ purchasers receive, since they may be paying the same price on certain days. Again, Disney has not shared when Disney PhotoPass downloads will be added to Disney Genie+ at Walt Disney World, but we do know that it will be implemented in the next few months.

It is important to note that the PhotoPass with Genie+ will be for attraction photos only. Magic Shots and pictures around the Parks will not be a part of that.

This is just one piece of great news that Disney Guests received on January 10. We also learned that TRON Lightcycle/Run will open at Magic Kingdom Park on April 4. Also, effective immediately, Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel will no longer have to pay for parking. What a great day to be a Disney fan!
