At only twenty-seven years old, Tom Holland (full name Thomas Stanley Holland) has already been named one of the most popular actors of his generation by multiple publications. After all, scoring a role as popular and well-known as Peter Parker will certainly put someone on the map.
Tom Holland’s acting career began when he was just nine years old when he auditioned for the role of Billy Elliot.
As he began acting on stage and in different productions, he became well-known around the world once he earned the role of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Appearing in multiple Marvel Studios films from Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) to Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Tom Holland has quickly ascended the ranks, acting alongside celebrator performers such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and more.
However, it’s no secret that acting comes with unique challenges to overcome. Recently, the Marvel Studios wunderkind appeared on an episode of On Purpose With Jay Shetty, where he discussed a number of things, including his sobriety.
“I was definitely addicted to alcohol,” he admits, stating he would “drink and drink and drink and drink” to the breaking point.
The Marvel Studios actor would find himself asking, “Why am I enslaved this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?” During the episode, he admits that much of his drinking was facilitated by the stress of social events.
However, Tom Holland has now been sober for over a year, and openly states that his physical and mental health have only improved since:
“I could sleep better, I could handle problems better…Things that would go wrong on set that would normally set me off, I could take in my stride. I had so much such better mental clarity. I felt healthier. I felt fitter.”
The actor is currently nine months into his year-long break, and we can only imagine that even greater things are to come for this wall-crawling wunderkind.
