Tom Hiddleston Replaced as Disney Officially Reveals Brand-New ‘Loki’ Successor

Marvel fans have spent months counting down to Avengers: Doomsday (2026), a film expected to bring together heroes and villains from nearly every corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anticipation continues growing as more casting announcements arrive and theories spread about how Marvel will tie together years of stories across movies and television.

Before that massive crossover reaches theaters, however, Marvel has already turned attention toward its next television event. The studio appears ready to hand the spotlight to a new series that shares many of the same qualities fans loved in one of its most successful streaming shows, giving audiences another ambitious adventure before the MCU’s next chapter unfolds.

Avengers: Doomsday Is Marvel’s Biggest Event Yet

Marvel has assembled an enormous cast for Avengers: Doomsday (2026), making it one of the studio’s most ambitious productions to date. Rather than focusing on a single team, the movie brings together characters from multiple franchises that have shaped the MCU over the past several years.

Robert Downey Jr. headlines the film in a surprising return as Doctor Doom. He’ll be joined by Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers.

Even with so many familiar faces confirmed, Marvel has intentionally left plenty of mysteries unanswered. Several upcoming Disney+ projects are expected to expand the story before audiences finally see how all the pieces fit together.

Loki Leaves Behind Big Shoes to Fill

Among Marvel’s streaming successes, Loki (2021) remains one of the most popular. As the third live-action MCU series released on Disney+, it quickly built a reputation for combining humor, emotional character development, and imaginative Multiverse storytelling unlike anything Marvel had previously attempted.

The series transformed Tom Hiddleston’s Loki from a longtime antagonist into one of the franchise’s most compelling heroes. By the conclusion of Season 2, his journey reached a satisfying stopping point as he embraced a responsibility far greater than anyone expected.

Although Marvel has never officially ruled out another season, the studio has shifted its attention toward new stories. Instead of extending Loki, Marvel seems prepared to introduce another science fiction series that delivers the same blend of mystery, emotion, and larger-than-life concepts.

VisionQuest Steps Into the Spotlight

That next project is VisionQuest (2026), which picks up the story left behind by WandaVision (2021). Paul Bettany returns as White Vision while searching for the memories that once defined him and trying to understand exactly who he has become.

The series premieres on October 14, 2026, and features James Spader returning as Ultron alongside Todd Stashwick and Ruaridh Mollica. While Marvel continues to keep most story details secret, preview footage points to an unusual journey filled with artificial intelligence, shifting realities, and psychological twists.

Many of those ideas feel familiar to fans of Loki. Reports suggest Vision explores a simulated world inside his own mind while encountering AI programs such as Ultron, FRIDAY, and EDITH. Like the Time Variance Authority before it, the setting appears ready to embrace the stranger side of Marvel storytelling.

Vision also shares an unexpectedly similar journey with Loki. Both characters died before returning through extraordinary circumstances, forcing each of them to rediscover who they are after receiving another chance at life. VisionQuest also introduces Tommy Maximoff, Vision and Wanda’s son, whose arrival could reshape Vision’s future while reconnecting him with his past.

Looking Ahead to Marvel’s Next Chapter

With VisionQuest arriving just weeks before Avengers: Doomsday (2026), the series has an opportunity to expand several ideas that have become increasingly important throughout the MCU. Themes involving artificial intelligence, identity, and alternate realities continue growing across Marvel’s stories, making Vision an ideal character to explore them before the next crossover begins.

Fans also continue wondering when Thor and Loki will finally share the screen again. Thor never reunited with the Loki he lost during Avengers: Infinity War (2018), leaving one of Marvel’s most emotional relationships unfinished. Whether that reunion happens through the Multiverse, time travel, or another unexpected twist, it remains one of the MCU’s biggest unanswered questions.

Until then, VisionQuest looks well-positioned to become Marvel’s next major streaming event. If it captures the creativity and emotional storytelling that made Loki such a standout series, viewers may have another favorite to enjoy before Avengers: Doomsday finally arrives.
