MCU Report: Wanda Maximoff’s Return Reportedly Tied to Doctor Doom’s ‘Secret Wars’
Marvel fans have spent years debating whether Wanda Maximoff’s story truly came to an end, and the latest round of online reports has reignited that conversation. Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch has been absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since her last appearance, but new speculation suggests that may not be the case for much longer. While Marvel Studios has yet to announce anything officially, rumors continue pointing toward Wanda playing an important role in one of the upcoming Avengers films.
With Phase 6 building toward two massive crossover events, many fans believe the timing finally makes sense for one of the franchise’s most powerful characters to step back into the spotlight.
Wanda’s Fate Has Never Been Officially Confirmed
Wanda Maximoff’s last appearance came in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), where grief ultimately pushed her down a dangerous path. After the events of WandaVision, Wanda became consumed by the Darkhold, believing she could reunite with Billy and Tommy by traveling across the Multiverse.
Her pursuit of America Chavez drove much of the movie’s conflict as she used overwhelming chaos magic against anyone who stood in her way. Doctor Strange and several other heroes struggled to slow her down as Wanda became one of the MCU’s most intimidating forces.
Everything changed once Wanda witnessed how frightened another version of her sons had become because of her actions. Realizing how far she had fallen, she chose to destroy every version of the Darkhold by bringing Mount Wundagore down around herself.
Still, Marvel stopped short of confirming that Wanda actually died. Instead of showing a body, the film ended with the mountain collapsing as red energy flashed across the screen. That ending has fueled comeback theories ever since.

Doctor Doom Raises the Stakes for Phase 6
The MCU is now preparing for its next major villain.
Avengers: Doomsday (2026) is scheduled to arrive on December 18, 2026, introducing Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom rather than Tony Stark. Doom brings a unique combination of scientific brilliance and powerful magic, making him one of Marvel’s most dangerous adversaries.
His intelligence alone makes him a massive threat, but his mastery of the mystic arts gives him another level of power. With the Multiverse already unstable, Doom has the potential to reshape reality as Marvel builds toward Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
That larger conflict naturally creates room for characters with extraordinary abilities, and few heroes fit that description better than Scarlet Witch.

There Are Several Ways Wanda Could Return
Her desire to reunite with Billy and Tommy has always been her greatest weakness. Doctor Doom could exploit those emotions. He might promise to restore her family in exchange for her help. That arrangement would create another alliance built on manipulation.
Marvel could also take Wanda in the opposite direction.
Instead of serving another villain, she could return seeking redemption. She may try to make amends for everything that happened in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). That path could place her alongside Doctor Strange, the Avengers, and other heroes. Together, they would try to stop Doom from destroying reality.
Either direction would put Wanda’s reality-warping chaos magic at the center of Phase 6.

A New Toy Has Fans Looking for Hidden Clues
Speculation has grown even stronger due to the recently released Avengers: Doomsday merchandise.
One of the newest Doctor Doom action figures offers fans another look at the villain’s MCU costume. But many fans have focused on the figure’s magical effects instead.
Doctor Doom typically channels green magic throughout Marvel comics. This version, however, features striking red magical energy.
That detail immediately caught fans’ attention because Wanda’s powers have long been associated with red chaos magic. After Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) introduced Wanda through HYDRA’s Mind Stone experiments, later stories established her abilities as chaos magic, making the color difficult for longtime fans to ignore.
While merchandise doesn’t reveal story details, the similarities have sparked plenty of discussion about whether Marvel is quietly teasing Scarlet Witch’s return.

Elizabeth Olsen Isn’t Giving Anything Away
For now, Elizabeth Olsen continues to avoid confirming what comes next for Wanda Maximoff. Whenever questions about Scarlet Witch’s future come up, she has consistently declined to reveal Marvel’s plans.
That silence has only added to the excitement surrounding Phase 6.
Both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are expected to feature returning characters and major surprises. Even if Wanda appears in Avengers: Doomsday, many fans believe her true return would be in Avengers: Secret Wars. Her powers could prove essential in the battle against Doctor Doom.
Until Marvel makes an official announcement, Scarlet Witch’s future remains one of the biggest mysteries hanging over the MCU.
