Most of us watched Disney movies when we were little (and big) kids. It’s just a part of the culture. It’s why Disney is so multi-generationally successful. As adults, we find that we like to go back to some of those classic movies for comfort when life gets a little too overwhelming. Do you have any movies like that for you? These movies feel like a warm blanket, like the carpet of our childhood home, like everything happy rolled into one. There are countless comforting Disney movies, but we’ve compiled a list of just some of our favorites. Take a look!

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

We almost feel like Winnie the Pooh should be synonymous with comfort. These movies, shorts, and specials are so incredibly sweet and wholesome. Whether you grew up reading the books by A.A. Milne or first met Pooh on the Wonderful World of Disney, Winnie the Pooh feels like childhood. The entire premise of the world is that it’s a play space. The Hundred Acre Wood is Christopher Robin’s play land, where he can let his imagination run wild with his stuffed best friends. Is there anything sweeter or more precious than that? Watching these movies as adults reminds us of these simpler times and feels like a breath of fresh air.

Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins was a huge shifting point for the Walt Disney Studios. Not only was this a fantastically made movie, but it was also a film that shaped all of our childhoods. This movie skyrocketed Julie Andrews’ career, instantly making her a household name that we would all know for years to come. Mary Poppins is comforting because that’s what Mary does: she comforts the Banks family. She comes in when their world is a mess and their family is falling apart. Adults know a little bit about that. This beautiful, sentimental film is full of music, love, and magic.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast was released in the most beloved age of Disney animation: the 90s. Most of the movies in this time frame are incredibly comforting, especially to the millennials who grew up in that decade. We chose Beauty and the Beast simply because it’s one of our comfort movies. As viewers, we are swept away to a romantic location with fun characters, amazing music, and a love story for the ages. It has everything you could want and really is a tale as old as time.

The Muppet Movie

Movin’ right along! The Muppet Movie holds such a special place in our hearts, and we’d be willing to bet that we’re not the only ones. Jim Henson truly changed the game when he created absolute masterpieces full of silliness, heart, and puppetry. These movies, but especially the one that started it all, are so comforting. Nothing has ever come close to matching the level of the Muppet movies. And this first one is beloved because it takes all of the characters you already knew and loved from the show and brought them to life in the real world. We got to sing with Kermit, fly with Gonzo, and laugh with Fozzie. We go back to this one over and over again.

Cinderella

Ahh, the classic. Although Cinderella was not Walt’s first big hit, it is definitely the one that has stood the test of time. So many movies and shows and books and songs have been based on this fairy tale made famous by Walt Disney. This movie is so comforting to us because of its simplicity. We all know this story. It’s predictable and fluffy, and romantic and beautiful and hopeful. These are things that we all need to be reminded of from time to time. Plus, for those of us who are addicted to Walt Disney World as well as the movies, we all know how important that Castle is. Cinderella Castle means home to so many of us, and that will always be a comfort.

Toy Story

You didn’t really think we’d leave Pixar off this list, did you? Pixar has made some of the best, emotionally charged children’s movies of all time. And the one that started it all? Toy Story. Toy Story is a comfort movie that feels different because of the arc that it went through. We were little kids with Andy, meeting Buzz for the first time. And we were going off to college when he did, too, leaving all of our friends behind. These movies are so comforting because they remind us of being small and hopeful and imaginative. And they remind us that you always have a friend.

The Aristocats

Everybody wants to be a cat! The Aristocats will always be one of our favorite comfort movies because it is unique and an absolute classic! This fun movie about an adorable feline family is simply incredibly charming. Duchess and her kittens are the fluffiest main characters and it is so fun to go along their adventure with them. The Aristocats is entertaining and is objectively a good movie. But what makes it stand out is how absolutely beautiful the animation is. The backdrops of Paris are enough to make anyone swoon and fall in love. Somehow, this classic style of animation feels inherently comforting. It is smooth and muted and delicate. It’s as if you have to slow down in order to appreciate this movie.
