Registration opened today for Walt Disney World’s 2024 Marathon Weekend presented by runDisney!
The annual marathon at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida has a handful of different races over one January weekend. Runners dress to match the themes of each race or just as their favorite characters. Plus, there are character meet and greets along the route where runners can stop and get pictures if they like.
Races
The marathon itself is 26.2 miles long and goes throughout all four Walt Disney World theme parks. Over 20,000 people register to run every year!
Each race has its own theme. The 5K (3.1 miles) race is Pluto and will be held on January 4 at 5 am. Chip and Dale are the 10K (6.2 miles) race mascots, set to start on January 5 at 5 am. Listed as “13.1-magical miles,” the half marathon is all about Donald Duck and Daisy and is scheduled for January 6 at 5 am. The marathon is the main event and is, of course, hosted by Mickey and Minnie Mouse on January 7 at 5 am!
Challenges
If you want to go the *extra mile,* you can sign up for the challenge packages that go with the races. The Dopey Challenge will award you six medals for completing all the races (48.6 miles) over the weekend! If that’s a little too ambitious for you, try “Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge.” Complete the half marathon and the full marathon “at pace” and receive three medals for the 39.3 miles you ran over all four parks!

Both the Dopey Challenge and the Goofy Challenge are for pros, but don’t fret, the event even has virtual options if you want to race at home and information for spectators if running isn’t your thing.
Whether you’re a runner or not, check out the runDisney page for more on the Walt Disney World marathon. Maybe you’re one of the runners who will “go the distance!” General registration is open now.
