Christmas at Walt Disney World is a magical time full of wonder and enchantment. Around every corner, there seems to be a brand new discovery to be made, and there are no shortages of once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. If you happen to be headed to Disney this holiday season, you’ll want to stop by Animal Kingdom Lodge, where you can create and bring home one of the most unique souvenirs on property- Ostrich Egg Christmas Ornaments!

Each ornament is made from a real ostrich egg that was laid by one of the ostriches at Animal Kingdom Lodge or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. The eggs are collected, cleaned, dyed, and crushed to prepare them for this unique Christmas gift. Next, they are shaped into an animal mosaic of your choosing and tied off with a recycled telephone wire. The end result is a one-of-a-kind keepsake you’ll Remember each and every Christmas.

This project is 100% cruelty-free. The all-female ostrich population at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom lay eggs on a regular schedule like chickens do. Without males to fertilize the eggs, though, the females don’t have a use for them once they are laid and are discarded by the animals. The craft provides a use for the eggs and helps to engage Guests in learning about animals and protecting wildlife globally.

Not only is this a great way to spread awareness and upcycle the unused eggs, but it’s also a great keepsake to remind you of all the wildlife you’ve learned about during your visit! Hurry, though. This egg-citing project won’t last long! Guests can participate by visiting the recreation clubhouses at Jambo House from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Kidani Village from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until December 31.

About Jill Bivins

Jill Bivins has been visiting Disney Parks since she was 2 years old and loves sharing her Disney adventures with the world. She likes to say Disney is in her blood and writing is in her bones — so any time she has the opportunity to combine these loves she is one happy camper! She has a deep abiding love for Epcot and as a die hard Star Wars fan has a serious love for Hollywood Studios as well. When she isn't exploring or writing about Disney Parks, Jill is homeschooling her 8 year old son, playing with her brand new baby son, or pretending to be a farmer on her family homestead (despite being unable to keep even a cactus alive).
