“Off With Her Head!” Disney Makes Changes to ‘Creepy’ Character Meet and Greet

Meeting your favorite Disney character is a time-honored tradition. There is nothing quite like a hug from your favorite hero or even a taunt from your favorite villain. Did you know there are over 85 character meet and greets at Walt Disney World? That number keeps growing too. Soon Figment will join the lineup. No matter what your favorite Disney movie is, odds are, you’ll be able to meet at least one character from the film on your next Disney vacation.

One of my favorite Disney movies is Alice in Wonderland. I love the delightful trip through Aluce’s imagination and the zany cast of characters like the Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat. The Queen of Hearts is probably one of the greatest Disney Villains of all time, too! From time to time, she makes an appearance at Walt Disney World to meet guests, and we have to say, they did her wrong! Poor Queenie just doesn’t have the same vibe in person that she does on the screen.

There are two different types of Disney meet-and-greet characters: “face” and “fur” characters. The distinction has little to do with fur: face characters meet without a mask, and fur characters meet with a mask. All animal characters wear a full mask in order to appear like the character, hence the name. Human characters, though, are hit-and-miss. Some have a mask (like Buzz, Woody, and Jessie) others do not (like the princesses). The Queen of Hearts has always been a fur character, and the results have been… little creepy.

Some human characters absolutely need the mask. Jafar is an excellent example due to his very unique appearance. There’s not really a good reason why The Queen of Hearts has the full mask. It wouldn’t be hard to find actresses that fit the Queen of Hearts look. Even the Mad Hatter is a face character! If he can, almost every human character can because Mad Hatter has a very unique appearance.

At Disneyland recently, our favorite croquet-playing villainess recently unveiled a new look. Gone was the creepy mask. The difference was incredible. She made her debut during Pride Nite, and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. People praised the new look on social media. One Tiktok video has gone viral, and it seems people can’t get enough of this more “realistic” Queen of Hearts! Check it out:

Hopefully, this wasn’t a one-time occurrence for Pride Night. Guests loved it, and we hope she makes her way to Florida very soon! It remains to be seen whether this new look will take over for the old, but I think I speak for almost everyone when I say, “Yes, please!”

Jill Bivins has been visiting Disney Parks since she was 2 years old and loves sharing her Disney adventures with the world. She likes to say Disney is in her blood and writing is in her bones — so any time she has the opportunity to combine these loves she is one happy camper! She has a deep abiding love for Epcot and as a die hard Star Wars fan has a serious love for Hollywood Studios as well. When she isn't exploring or writing about Disney Parks, Jill is homeschooling her 8 year old son, playing with her brand new baby son, or pretending to be a farmer on her family homestead (despite being unable to keep even a cactus alive).
