There are a lot of new and exciting things happening at Walt Disney World as the Resort celebrates its 50th anniversary — from new nighttime shows to new food and merchandise, to new attractions. Right now, only one of those attractions — Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure — is open to the public, but two more are actively being built — TRON LightCycle/Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. While TRON does not currently have an opening time frame, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is scheduled to open in 2022.
Disney has not given an official opening date for Cosmic Rewind yet, but it seems that the attraction may open in the earlier part of 2022 instead of the latter half of the year. Recently, Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley shared that landscaping was being put in front of the ride building, something that would most likely not happen unless all major construction was done.
Now, Riddley is giving another look at the work being done. He recently shared some photos on Instagram of the metal paneling that will cover the entire building. The paneling had been covered with a protective material, but that is now being peeled away — another thing that maybe would not be done unless the ride was close to being completed.
We are excited to share a first look at our stunning facade being installed at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!! This morning we unwrapped the metal panels that will cover the entire front surface of the pavilion. These metallic silver panels bring a sleek, intergalactic aesthetic that fits perfectly in our World Discovery neighborhood.
Soon we will commence installation of our greeter booth in front of these panels that will serve as gateway into this attraction. This structure will serve as our welcome point for all Guests who come to experience the treasures our Xandarian friends have come to EPCOT to showcase.
We have much more progress to share as the exterior of the pavilion takes shape over the coming weeks and as we continue one of the largest park transformations in Disney history.
Here is more information on the brand-new ride that will soon be opening at EPCOT from Disney Parks Blog:
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a family-friendly adventure, featuring a totally new type of roller coaster experience we’re developing just for this attraction – it’s a storycoaster that rotates 360 degrees so you’re always focused on all the action as you help the Guardians save the galaxy. Not only that, but Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will also feature the first reverse launch on a coaster in Disney history and is one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world. It’s a massive experience that will match the scale and adventure of the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
The addition of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is only a part of the massive overhaul that is going on at EPCOT. The entire Park is being transformed and upgraded in the largest renovation in Disney Parks history. The Park will be undergoing its transformation over the next few years.
