On September 30, Disney released the highly anticipated sequel Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney+. The film told the story of Becca (Whitney Peak) and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo), two teenage girls who accidentally cast a spell that brings the Sanderson sisters back from the grave. Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker also returned for the sequel, reprising their roles as Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson, respectively. As with the first film, the Sanderson sisters plan to live forever by once again sucking the lives out of the children of Salem.
While a lot of people were excited to watch the sequel that they had waited nearly 30 years for — the film broke Disney+ records — one woman was warning people of the dangers the movie posed.
Jamie Gooch is a Texas mother of three who believes that watching a movie like Hocus Pocus 2 — which focuses on “harvesting children” and a “blood sacrifice” — could spell danger for children. She says that things that she has heard on television have manifested themselves and become reality. She also believes that many people may think that the spells in the movie are innocent, but Hollywood “could be casting any type of spell they want to.”

Some have called the Texas mother crazy, but Gooch told KOLD News 13 — a local Texas news station — that she has also received a lot of positive feedback.
“I was a little bit scared when I hit post because I was afraid of the reaction that I would get…the post was for people who’ve been on the fence on the decisions they need to make for their family,” said Gooch. “It was wonderful in a sense that a lot of people agreed with me in that they already knew, there were some that didn’t understand, but it was welcomed: tell me your opinion I want to hear where you’re coming from, although it doesn’t change my convictions or what I choose to do with my family.”
“I was talking about the movie with friends and family, and it just weighed heavy on my heart, because some people are doing things and they’re not even aware that they’re partaking in these things…most mistakes that I’ve done it’s because I didn’t know any better,” said Gooch. “If you don’t agree with me that’s fine, you need to go and follow your own heart and your own conviction, but for a Christian, we are held at a higher standard.”
Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 are both available to stream on Disney+. Hocus Pocus 2 saw Doug Jones return to the role of Billy Butcherson. The film also stars Lilia Buckingham as Cassie, Tony Hale as Mayor Traske, and Sam Richardson as Gilbert.
