They put a spell on us in 1993 and now the Sanderson sisters are back and ready to curse us again! After years of begging Disney to give us a spooky sequel to the classic film, Disney finally listened and announced that a Hocus Pocus sequel was on the way. Best of all, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker are all returning to play Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson. Doug Jones is also set to return as the ill-fated Billy Butcherson. After 28 years, we will once again be able to live in all of our Hocus Pocus glory!
One of the most popular and memorable scenes in the original film was when the Sanderson sisters crashed the Salem Halloween party. Max Dennison tried to warn the adults that the witches were back, but no one listened to him. From there, we got to listen and dance to an incredibly fun rendition of the song “I Put A Spell On You”. That scene has lived on in Hocus Pocus fame for decades.
Now we know that even more singing will be happening in the sequel! Sarah Jessica Parker — who plays Sarah Sanderson — recently sat down with Andy Cohen on the Bravo show Watch What Happens Live! and spilled the beans. “Yes, there will be a number! Of course, there will be a number, a number or two,” she said. You can watch Parker talk about the film on Watch What Happens Live! below.

At this time, no release date has been announced for the film. However, there are some things we do know. We know that filming began in Rhode Island around October 2021 and has now wrapped. We also know that the movie will not have a theatrical release and will instead make its way straight to Disney+. Hocus Pocus 2 will focus on three teenage girls who accidentally bring back the Sanderson sisters — which will be so interesting to see, considering they exploded at the end of the first movie. That’s witchcraft for you!
Currently, rumor has it that Disney is planning on having the film completed in time for a Halloween release. However, in the pandemic age, things can happen, so Disney is not confirming any date.
Are you excited to hear that more musical numbers will be in Hocus Pocus 2?
