Disney has announced that a new updated version of MagicBands will be coming to the parks. This new generation of MagicBands, called MagicBand+, will redefine the Guest in-park experience.
The new and improved MagicBands are set to debut in 2022, just in time for the continued celebration of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration. However, older versions of MagicBands will continue to operate as usual.
MagicBand+ bracelets will be a completely interactive tool. Once a Guest enters any of the four Walt Disney World Resort Parks, the MagicBand+ will begin to light up in an array of colors that will change as the Guest travels through the park. MagicBand+ will also use haptic vibrations to communicate with Guests while participating in the interactive activities listed below.
Disney Parks Blog describes MagicBand and MagicBand+:
“The original MagicBand was introduced in 2013 at Walt Disney World, making the Guest experience in our theme parks and resorts more convenient and hands-free for things like park and guest room entry, retail and dining, Disney PhotoPass and more. MagicBand+ will retain those popular features and add functionality that unlocks new moments of magic for you.”
Guests can use their MagicBand+ to virtually interact with the golden Fab 50 Statues around the parks, experience each firework show like never before, and become an intergalactic bounty hunter at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. As time goes on, more interactive experiences will be added to the MagicBand+ experience. These interactive features come to life through the MagicBand+ and the MagicMobile app. MagicMobile can be found within the My Disney Experience app and is available to any phone via Apple’s App Store or via Google Play.
The new MagicBand+ will come in various colors and designs, just like the older versions of the wrist-worn technology. One of the designs that has been revealed includes a white band with a colorful pixelated depiction of all four Walt Disney World Resort Park icons. The other design is a deep purple band covered in tiny stars with an “EARidescent” Walt Disney World logo stretching around the band. It look like the center pucks are also designed in different ways as the white band shown has the vintage Walt Disney World logo on it, and the purple band has Walt Disney holding Mickey Mouse’s hand.
The MagicBand+ will enhance the immersive Disney experience through continued storytelling and magical moments brought to life in a new technological way. Guests will enjoy the enhanced experiences that come with this update and will also find more things to keep them engaged while in the parks.
