Miley Cyrus burst into the entertainment industry at a young age when she was offered the life-changing titular role of Hannah Montana. Her undeniable talent and over-the-top charisma made her an instant hit among Disney Channel’s audience.
After the show ended, Miley’s transition from Disney sweetheart to global pop star was imminent, but it did not come without turbulence. Now, 17 years after the premiere of Hannah Montana, Miley is finally ready to revisit the role that started it all.
A “One in a Million” Voice
While Miley Cyrus may be a semi-controversial star now, there is no denying that she has an incredible vocal gift. In her new series, Used to Be Young, Miley looks back at a recording of her younger self singing “I Love Rock and Roll” in an audition video for the series Hannah Montana.
Back during her original audition in 2004, Miley actually auditioned for the role of Lily, Hannah Montana’s best friend. While her talent dazzled the casting team, it was determined that she was too young to fit in with the rest of the pre-cast actors. Another actress was chosen, and Miley went on her way.
However, two years later, Miley was approached once more after the original pilot failed to meet Disney’s expectations. Just like that, Miley was shot to stardom, “and the rest is Her-story.”

Used to Be Young
Talking about her Disney Channel days hasn’t always been easy for Miley. For many years, the actress and singer resented the “golden girl” image that Disney had branded on her. After leaving Hannah Montana, Miley went to great lengths to prove to the world that she was no longer the starry-eyed pop star we once knew.
Now, at 30 years old, Miley has the wisdom to be able to take an honest look back on her childhood career. In her new single “Used to Be Young,” Miley wears a Mickey Mouse t-shirt as she sings the lyrics;
“I know I used to be crazy
I know I used to be fun
You say I used to be wild
I say I used to be young”
Regardless of how you feel about Miley Cyrus, it is so fascinating to see her discuss her childhood in the spotlight like this.
