Busch Gardens Confirms Imminent Shutdown of Tampa Bay Theme Park
Guests inside Busch Gardens Tampa Bay got word last Thursday that their day at the theme park was about to end early, as severe weather forced an abrupt shutdown of the Central Florida vacation destination.
Busch Gardens Pulls the Plug on Thursday

The closure came via an Instagram story posted by Busch Gardens Tampa Bay on August 27, which read:
“Due to inclement weather, Busch Gardens is closed for the rest of today, Aug. 27.
We hope to see you soon!”

The Tampa Bay Times reported that local officials had issued a weather alert for the Tampa area earlier that afternoon, as the region was dealing with strong thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 40 mph. Given the park’s largely outdoor, wildlife-focused layout, Busch Gardens decided to shut down entirely rather than risk the safety of guests, employees, and animals.
Compensation Available for Affected Guests
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, part of the United Parks & Resorts family, which also includes SeaWorld, maintains a “Worry-Free Fun” policy called the Weather-or-Not Assurance to handle situations like this.

The policy entitles guests to a free return visit if weather forces an early theme park closure, disrupts standard operating hours, shuts down rides for longer than 60 minutes, or drives the park’s heat index to 110 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Guests can submit a request for a replacement ticket at Guest Services or via the park’s online form, but must do so within one week of the affected visit. Most admission types qualify, aside from certain promotional tickets.
Where Things Stand Now

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay reopened right on schedule on Friday, August 28, and operated normally through the weekend on both Saturday and Sunday. The park plans to operate during its usual hours, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Monday, August 31.
Attention is now turning toward the park’s Howl-O-Scream event, scheduled to run from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on select nights between September 11 and October 31, 2026. Many Howl-O-Scream weekends will also feature the daytime Halloween Spooktacular, a family-friendly event open to guests of all ages.
Guests are encouraged to check the park’s official calendar ahead of any visit for the most current scheduling details.
