Another live-action remake is rumored to be in the works at Walt Disney Studios, and the rumors about the film supposedly in production include everything from guesses about who might comprise the cast to when the film might be released.

Disney’s Frozen (2013) is the second-highest-grossing Disney animated film in the company’s history. The film follows the tale of Princess Anna (Kristen Bell) and her sister, Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel), in the days that follow Elsa’s coronation after her parents are tragically lost at sea. Elsa must learn to acknowledge and embrace what is different about her, but she can’t do it without her sister by her side. An ice harvester named Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and his reindeer Sven offer a helping hand to Princess Anna, and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (Josh Gad) provides comic relief for all throughout the story.

Originally inspired by The Snow Queen (1844) written by Hans Christian Andersen, Disney’s Frozen quickly became a blockbuster phenomenon, and since its release, the film has amassed more than $1.28 billion. It is a different type of film for Disney, in that it features two strong female lead characters, and the “prince and dream-come-true” scenario turns out very differently than in other Disney Princess films.

It was such a hit and such a game-changing film for Disney that the studio is rumored to be working on a live-action version of the film.

What Would a Live-Action ‘Frozen’ Look Like?

Though it hasn’t yet been confirmed by Disney, fans of the icy story of Queen Elsa and Princess Anna have helped perpetuate rumors about a live-action remake of the film being in production at Disney, and they say they already have some ideas about what that remake might look like, include, and when it might be released.

For starters, the film would likely not be released until 2027, 2028, or later, especially when the amount of time it takes to produce such a film is taken into consideration. Disney’s already working on the animated third installment in the franchise, and the studio has a long list of box office releases planned through the end of this decade as it is.

Fans say that the cast of the live-action Frozen might include actresses Anna Kendrick as Princess Anna and Florence Pugh, or Evan Rachel Wood as Queen Elsa. Other fans say it makes sense to bring back the actresses who embodied the royal siblings in Disney’s Once Upon a Time series.

The most recent published rumors about a live-action version of the film came in mid-October, as various outlets reported on the possibility of a Frozen remake being in production at Disney. Other reports suggested that Disney’s animated Tarzan (1999) and Princess and the Frog (2009) are in line for the same treatment.

What Will the New Story Be?

As for details about the storyline itself, rumor has it that, well, there simply aren’t many at this time. As the film has yet to be confirmed by Disney, elements of the story, as well as the addition of new characters, is any fan’s guess. However, according to ScreenRant, Frozen is not a problematic film when it comes to remaking the story using live characters and real sets:

There aren’t any hints about what the story of the live-action “Frozen” remake would be and what changes, if any, Disney would make to the plot for the change of medium. Unlike Disney’s older movies such as “Snow White,” “Peter Pan,” or “The Lady and the Tramp,” 2013’s “Frozen” doesn’t have many problematic elements that would need rectifying for modern audiences.

This means it’s likely that very little would be altered for a live-action “Frozen” remake, and it could even be possible that Disney would recreate the megahit movie almost shot-for-shot.

At this time, there’s been no official confirmation about plans for a remake of the story of Anna and Elsa, but there’s no doubt that such a remake might even please fans who have an aversion to many of Disney’s live-action films so far. It’s simply that popular.
