Initially announced in 2020, “Tiana” is a new animated series for Disney+. Production of this show is taking steps forward as Joyce Sherri has been named lead writer and director, according to Variety.

The series is to be a follow-up to the beloved movie Princess and the Frog (2009). The series will continue to feature Tiana, who Anika Noni Rose will again voice from the original film. Now set to debut in 2024, this new Disney+ animated series took a big step in the right direction by naming Sherri as the lead writer and director for the series.

A New Animated Show to Come

The new Disney+ series is set to follow Tiana from Princess and the Frog. The new animated series will take place after the film. It will follow Tiana’s new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia. The series will watch as Tiana fits into her new role as a princess while her heart still seeks out New Orleans, where her past calls to her.

This isn’t the first Disney+ series to be created as a follow-up to Disney and Pixar films. Fans have enjoyed series follow-ups on Disney+ around Zootopia (2016), Big Hero 6 (2014), and Cars (2006). Disney also stated previously that an animated series around Moana (2016) would be produced, but that has yet to be seen. The animated series could be on hold with the new live-action film being created.

Writer and Director Announced

The Disney+ series will be produced by Walt Disney Animation, the same studio that produced Princess and the Frog. Along with Sherri as lead writer and director, Nathan Curtis will produce alongside Jennifer Lee and Stella Meghie as executive producers.

Sherri previously won a Slamdance screenplay competition in 2020 for her feature “Sweet Sixteen”. Known primarily for her TV writing for the Netflix horror miniseries “Midnight Mass”, we look forward to seeing how she brings Tiana’s story to this new series.

Tiana in the Parks

As the new series is created for Disney+, Disney park fans anxiously await for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to open in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. This new ride is scheduled to open in late 2024.

The ride will be a musical adventure featuring the beloved characters from the film. Guests will join Tiana, Prince Naveen, and Louis on an adventure through the bayou. Together, they will hold a Mardi Gras celebration.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
