‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Will Feature Iconic River Scene From Universal Studios Ride: Report

The Jurassic Park franchise is no stranger to delivering unforgettable moments, both on-screen and off. With Jurassic World Rebirth set to release on July 2, 2025, fans can look forward to an ambitious chapter that bridges the series’ storied past with its bold future.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, 2014) and written by Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, the film brings together a star-studded cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey. While the plot promises plenty of surprises, one revelation has already stirred excitement: the film will include a sequence from Michael Crichton’s original novel that was left out of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 adaptation.

Speaking with Variety, David Koepp confirmed that Jurassic World Rebirth will revisit unused material from Crichton’s first novel. “I reread the two novels to get myself back in that mode,” he explained. “We did take some things from them. There was a sequence from the first novel that we’d always wanted in the original movie, but didn’t have room for. We were like, ‘Hey, we get to use that now.’”

Though Koepp didn’t explicitly name the scene, many fans speculate it’s the thrilling river sequence, a standout moment in Crichton’s novel. In this scene, Alan Grant and the Murphy siblings evade a pursuing Tyrannosaurus Rex while navigating a river in a raft. While Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park delivered groundbreaking moments, the river chase didn’t make it into the final cut, leaving fans to wonder what could have been.

This omission, however, became the inspiration for Universal Studios’ Jurassic Park: The Ride, which debuted in 1996. Featuring a water-based adventure with lifelike animatronics and a climactic encounter with a T. rex, the attraction became a beloved part of the franchise’s history. The river sequence’s inclusion in Rebirth could finally unite the novel’s suspense, Spielberg’s cinematic vision, and the theme park ride into one cohesive experience.

Set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the new film follows Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett, a covert specialist leading a mission to retrieve DNA from three colossal dinosaurs. The team stumbles upon a hidden island that holds a “sinister, shocking discovery,” as described in the official synopsis.

While details remain under wraps, incorporating the river sequence could serve as a thrilling centerpiece in a film that promises to reimagine the franchise’s direction.

Whether you’re a fan of the books, the movies, or the theme park attractions, Jurassic World Rebirth offers a chance to revisit the franchise’s roots while embracing cutting-edge storytelling. With a legacy spanning three decades, the river sequence’s long-awaited cinematic debut might just become the defining moment of this new chapter.
