After a years-long string of bad luck that included a tumultuous relationship that ended in divorce, two grueling and painful court cases and all the publicity that accompanied them, being cut from film projects in which he had played titular roles, and the death of a close friend, things seem to be looking up for famed actor Johnny Depp.
Over the last year, Depp not only won the defamation case he brought against his ex-wife Amber Heard, but before the verdict in the case was ever read, he had already made his way to Europe to begin touring with his friend and fellow musician, Jeff Beck. Depp has begun working on other projects as well, some of which placed him in the role of actor. He inked a new contract with Dior to continue sharing his face as the face of the popular men’s fragrance Sauvage. And he has even spent time painting unique portraits of people he admires. Both series of his paintings have literally sold like hotcakes. And he also plays the role of King Louis XV in the French film La Favorite.

Earlier this week, according to Variety, Johnny Depp inked a brand-new deal with French luxury fashion house and cosmetics maker Dior–a deal so lucrative, it trumps any men’s fragrance brand deal ever made.
Dior never once left Depp’s side over the last several years, even as allegations of domestic abuse and domestic violence rained down on the famed actor. Unlike Disney and Universal, Dior did not cut ties with Depp, despite the media frenzy over his failed marriage and the dark and murky PR waters that nearly drowned him. Dior sealed its first deal with JD in 2015, and in August 2022, the fashion brand backed its devotion to Depp with a new contract, signaling the maker’s intention to keep him on as the face of the most popular men’s fragrance by Christian Dior–an intoxicating mix of Calabrian bergamot and Amberwood called Sauvage–the advertisements for which very few women mind watching. On repeat.
The Dior Sauvage and Depp partnership formed this week is a three-year deal pegged at upwards of $20 million, making it the biggest men’s fragrance pact ever created. It’s bigger than actor Robert Pattison’s deal with Dior Homme for $12 million. It trumps Brad Pitt’s $7 million handshake to be the face of Chanel No. 5. And it’s in another universe compared to Chris Pine‘s deal with Armani that nets him $4 million over a three-year period.
Depp’s new Dior deal coincides with a high-profile showing for him at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, where he will be on hand for the May 16 world premiere of Maïwenn’s historical drama “Jeanne du Barry,” in which he plays King Louis XV. He is expected to attend a Dior dinner on May 17 before heading to London the following day for a Jeff Beck tribute, where he will perform alongside Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart. Sales will also kick off at the Cannes market for Depp’s first directorial effort in 25 years. The film, titled “Modi,” centers on the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani (Riccardo Scamarcio) and features a cast that also includes Al Pacino. Sales outfit The Veterans is shopping “Modi,” which will shoot in the fall.
In addition to the good fortune of Depp’s Dior Sauvage deal, here’s hoping things continue to look up for Johnny Depp for years to come.
