Is Disney Ready for Another Website Crash?

The Walt Disney World Resort website crashed earlier this year due to overwhelming demand. As soon as dates became available for purchasing and planning 2024 vacations, the Disney website experienced higher-than-expected traffic, sending guests into virtual queues as they attempted to book.

Disneyland Resort Vacations

A similar situation happened when Disney released tickets for their special holiday events. Guests had to wait hours to purchase tickets for Disneyland Resort’s Oogie Boogie Bash (one of Disneyland’s Halloween events).

Later this week, Disneyland Resort will be releasing packages for 2024, and it’s entirely possible the websites could be down yet again. Many Disney fans have wondered why you couldn’t book a Disneyland Resort package for 2024, while 2024 Walt Disney World packages have been available since June. Although you could purchase Disneyland theme park tickets or book a good neighbor hotel, bookings to stay on property at a Disneyland Resort were unavailable. Until now…

Beginning on August 24, 2023, guests can book their Disneyland Resort vacation package for the 2024 calendar year.

Hopefully, Disney’s technical team has everything ready and raring to go, and they don’t get stuck with “technical issues” gumming up the works like Disney has previously experienced. If not, we could see more error messages featuring Disney characters (or attractions) as they try to lighten the mood of an unfortunate circumstance.

Although it’s Disneyland Resort and not Walt Disney World Resort, it’s still a high-demand destination. Earlier this summer, tickets for the Oogie Boogie Bash at California Adventure Park, caused problems for Disney as they struggled to handle the traffic. So if you’ve been waiting (as some of us have) to book your stay at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, the Disneyland Hotel, or Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, set your calendars and alarms for this Thursday!

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
