When you visit Disneyland Resort in Southern California, there is one thing that you will never have to worry about – finding something absolutely delicious to eat. Whether you want to indulge in one of the Resort’s many sit-down restaurants, or are looking for something a little bit more relaxed, there will be something for everyone to meet almost any price point.
While Disneyland Resort is full of classics like cheeseburgers and chicken fingers, as well as more signature treats like Dole Whips and Mickey Pretzels, there is one thing at Downtown Disney that you may not find anywhere else – it also may be the oddest food you can find on property. Across from the Lego Store is the Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs cart, and they serve the pickle corn dog.
Yes, you read that right, a pickle corn dog.
Since I love corn dogs and I love pickles, I had to head to Downtown Disney to give this one a try. A full dill pickle is hollowed out and then stuffed with a whole, cooked hot dog. The pickle is then dipped in corn dog batter, covered in panko breadcrumbs, and fried to perfection. The pickle corn dog is served with a bag of chips and – to make things a little more unique – a side of peanut butter. Now, some people love spreading the peanut butter on the corn dog, but I didn’t think it needed that element. I didn’t think that the peanut butter added much, and I enjoyed eating the pickle corn dog without any accompaniments.
I just really have one word to describe Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs’ pickle corn dog: YUM. The corn dog only takes about 10 minutes to fry, so the pickle is warm, but still has that signature crunch. The panko breadcrumbs also add another nice layer to the corn dog. The pickle corn dogs are made to order, so you are always guaranteed to get a hot, fresh product.
Stuffing a pickle with a hot dog and then frying it like a corn dog is something that most people would never think of doing, but then once they eat it, they say “where has this been my whole life”. The pickle corn dog has taken Disneyland by storm, so there is a chance that you may need to wait if there are a lot of people there. However, it is absolutely worth it.
In this writer’s opinion, if you are headed down to Disneyland Resort and looking for something a little different to awaken your taste buds, head into Downtown Disney, go to Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs, and get the pickle corn dog. You won’t regret it!
