There’s so much happening at EPCOT in Walt Disney World Resort that it’s hard to keep up sometimes.

In the last few years, Disney has been working to completely renew and update the park. EPCOT is now divided into four distinct neighborhoods: World Celebration, World Nature, World Discovery, and World Showcase. Each of the neighborhoods celebrate Walt Disney’s vision for the community that he originally designed, but they’re also each different in their approach and what guests will enjoy while immersed in those areas of the theme park.

EPCOT has built two new rides in the last half-decade in Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (in France) and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (in World Discovery). In addition, the Disney World park just opened Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, which is a walk-through attraction celebrating the life cycle of water.

In addition to the attractions you can experience throughout the year, EPCOT is currently in the phase of its International Flower & Garden Festival. With the festival now in full swing, an Encanto attraction has officially reopened.

The Encanto attraction at EPCOT

Encanto (2021) is a heartwarming animated film from Disney that has captured the imagination of audiences worldwide with its rich storytelling and enchanting visuals. Set in Colombia, the film follows the Madrigal family, who live in a magical house in the mountains. Each member of the family possesses a unique magical gift, except for Mirabel, the protagonist. When the magic surrounding the house begins to fade, Mirabel embarks on a journey to save her family and their extraordinary home. Filled with themes of family, self-discovery, and the power of love, Encanto has resonated with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

If you visit EPCOT during the International Flower & Garden Festival, you should keep your eyes on Spaceship Earth for a special segment dedicated to Encanto. The light show is synched to the song “What Else Can I Do?,” which is performed by Isabella and Mirabel in the hit Disney movie.

This is the only time of the year that the Encanto attraction is up and running, so make sure to take some extra time to enjoy seeing that display while you can. But, there’s so much more.

In recent years, there have been rumors circulating about Disney World potentially adding an attraction inspired by Encanto to its parks, particularly in EPCOT. However, despite the speculation, no such attraction has materialized thus far. Nonetheless, the film’s popularity and the potential for immersive experiences based on its magical world make it a strong candidate for future park expansions.

Recently, there have been intriguing teases from Disney suggesting that Encanto could find a home alongside other beloved franchises like Indiana Jones at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Speculation has arisen that it could serve as a replacement for Dinoland, U.S.A., a section of the park that many Disney park fans feel could benefit from a refresh or overhaul. The vibrant and culturally rich setting of Encanto would fit well within the thematic landscape of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which celebrates the wonders of nature and the diversity of the world’s cultures.

Introducing an Encanto-themed attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom would offer visitors the opportunity to step into the magical world of the Madrigal family, immersing themselves in the sights, sounds, and enchantment of Colombia. For now, though, we’ll have to see what happens with the major retheme set for Walt Disney World Resort.

What does Disney have planned next for EPCOT?

With Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, now open, many fans have wondered what might be next for EPCOT.

First, there are still areas of construction that are being renewed. Disney World just reopened the newly-done area right behind Spaceship Earth, which now features syncing lights and a statue of Walt Disney. There are still construction walls up in certain areas around the park, but not major projects have been announced.

Disney just replaced EPCOT Forever with Luminous: The Symphony of Us. The new nighttime spectacular takes place each night at 9:00 p.m. Here’s what Disney has to say about the attraction:

“Delight in a dramatic show designed to bring us all together. Marvel at a dazzling pageant of fireworks, fountains, music and lights set to an original composition. New music, along with evocative selections from the Disney songbook, come together to remind us that we are more alike than we are different.”

In addition, Disney has announced that Test Track will soon be updated and reimagined with inspiration from the original World of Motion.

“Imagineers along with teams from Chevrolet are reaching back into history for inspiration – from the original World of Motion – and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of the Test Track attraction!  More to come in the future,” Disney shared.

As far as other updates coming to EPCOT, nothing has been announced. There are rumors that another pavilion could be built in World Showcase and this could come with a new attraction, but space is something that Disney would have to deal with and there are no confirmations from the company at this time.
