EPCOT’s Test Track Is Being Reimagined: Here’s What to Know

This change is massive and, honestly, long overdue.

You may remember in September 2023, Disney shared all sorts of news from Destination D23, and the changes are abundant. Whether it’s new meet and greets, fireworks shows, or ride changes, fans have been left with no lack of excitement for what’s ahead.

However,  no news has come to the relief of fans quite as much as the news that EPCOT’s iconic Test Track is finally getting a renovation.

Test Track Given a Long-Awaited Revival

Located in the heart of Walt Disney World Resort, EPCOT is a unique Disney park that combines entertainment, education, and innovation. One of the featured attractions in this expansive park is Test Track, an exhilarating ride that takes guests on a one-of-a-kind automotive adventure.

The attraction was originally meant to provide guests with a high-speed, adrenaline-boosting ride experience. With high-speed turns, hair-raising accelerations, and heart-pounding thrills, Test Track was at one time a testament to the Disney Imagineering team’s commitment to creating unforgettable experiences.

However, as the years have passed, Test Track has not aged in the way that Disney may have hoped it would have. Fans now find the ride underwhelming, and it doesn’t really hold the nostalgic element with crowds either.

Imagineers, Alongside Chevrolet, Provide New Expansion

It was announced at Destination D23, the fan expo at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort, that Disney Imagineers are working alongside Chevrolet to create a reimagined version of the Test Track attraction.

Disney explains that the new version as:

At EPCOT, Test Track will be reimagined! Imagineers along with teams from Chevrolet are reaching back into history for inspiration—from the original World of Motion—and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of the Test Track attraction! #DestinationD23

By the looks of the post’s comment section, fans are thrilled at this news. For a lot of fans, this news has been a long time coming, and it is great to see Disney listen to the feedback from fans and implement it in such a way.

When Will Test Track Be Reimagined?

Just like other D23 news, such as Magic Kingdom’s Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge, Disney has not given a timeframe for Test Track’s reimagination. As always, we will continue to keep readers updated as we learn more about the future of the attraction, including information on opening dates.

More About Test Track

Disney describes the popular attraction in its current state as “the Ultimate Test Drive”:

Cruise over to the gleaming Chevrolet Design Center to create your own virtual concept car. When you’re done, buckle up in a 6-passenger “SIM Car” and take it for an exhilarating spin on the test track.

Rev through rough terrain and obstacles along the winding circuit. Accelerate through straightaways, maneuver switchbacks through inclement weather, hug curves banked at 50-degree angles and scale hills up to 3 stories high.

Reach speeds of up to 65 miles per hour as you put your car through its paces. After each test, check the scoreboard to see how your vehicle performed!

After the Test: Make and share a commercial for your design, race your car again on a miniature virtual test or pose for a picture with your vehicle against a dramatic backdrop for a souvenir of your supercharged day.
