Disney/Pixar fans rejoice! Soon, we’ll be able to watch the recent underdog flick Elemental on Disney Plus!
Ever since director Peter Sohn’s Elemental hit theaters on June 16th, it’s been making headlines for various reasons. First, it performed so poorly in its opening weekend that it marked one of the worst in Pixar history. With juggernauts like Barbie and Oppenheimer stealing much of the summer spotlight, Elemental’s slow and steady success became a true underdog story.
Now, the original feature film’s box office numbers are comparable to the success of Toy Story (1995)!
On September 13th, take a trip to Element City from the comfort of your couch with Leah Lewis’ Ember Lumen and Mamoudou Athie’s Wade Ripple on Disney’s streaming service. The story follows the unlikely fire and water pair as they go outside their comfort zone, learn about cultures different from their own element, and have adventures along the way. Pixar Animation Studios has outdone itself, portraying fire, water, land, and air.

Uncertainty surrounded Elemental streaming on Disney Plus because of Walt Disney Pictures’ recent struggles at the box office and subpar streaming revenue. Audiences felt Disney might hold off on putting Elemental online as long as possible to squeeze every penny out of movie tickets. A handful of theaters are still running it and most likely will stop by the time September 13th rolls around.
Elemental was produced by Denise Ream and stars other notable voice actors like Catherine O’Hara as Brook Ripple, Shila Ommi as Cinder Lumen, Wendi McLendon-Covey as Gale Cumulus, and more.
Carl’s Date, a Pixar short featuring Carl and Dug from 2009’s Up, premiered in theaters just before every Elemental screening and is also set to hit Disney Plus the same day. Rounding out this Disney bundle September release is Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental, which is a behind-the-scenes documentary about director Peter Sohn and the making of Elemental.
Watch Elemental on Disney Plus, along with Carl’s Date and Good Chemistry, starting September 13th!
