Could this be real?!
In the world of Walt Disney, the box office has always been a critical measure of success. For the past 100 years, Disney has been a significant competitor when it comes to the highest-grossing movies in the world, and it is something that they take very seriously. Since covid, Disney has had trouble regaining their footing in a competitive market that is just not returning to normal. Now, there is a new contender vying for the top spot at the box office – the much-anticipated Elemental by Pixar.

The Underdog Story of ‘Elemental’
Pixar, known for its remarkable storytelling and visually captivating animations, has been dominating the box office for years. With each new release, audiences flock to theaters to experience the magic of a Pixar film.
Elemental is Pixar’s newest movie to hit the theatres. The film takes viewers on a journey into a world where the various elements – fire, water, earth, and air – come to life. Unfortunately, many fans felt underwhelmed by the promotion of the film. Elemental never managed to gain the fanbase or buzz from audiences that it intended. This proved evident when the film hit theatres on June 16, 2023.

Rough Start but a Steady Hold
Opening weekend for the animated movie Elemental was a disappointment, to say the least. The weekend of June 16 only was able to earn $29 million, which, as far as Pixar movies go, is a huge let-down. However, Elemental was remarkably able to hold on to decent retention through its weeks in theatres.
On its fourth weekend, the Pixar film made $10 million, making its total earning $251 million at the global box office. Theme Park reporter Scott Gustin noticed that this means that Elemental will likely pass Encanto‘s worldwide box office earnings of $256 globally. This means that Elemental is on its way to becoming Disney’s most lucrative animated film since the pandemic.
Pixar's #Elemental made $10m on its 4th weekend, only a 17% drop from last weekend. Total $109m US and currently outpacing The Flash. #Elemental at $251m globally and will soon pass Encanto ($256m globally) – which means it will be Disney's biggest hit since pandemic. pic.twitter.com/oeTBO6z5Vh

Many fans feel that this is hard to believe due to the massive success of Encanto. This also has some fans wondering if Elemental might find a new boost of success once it makes its transition to Disney+ streaming.
